We know the climate crisis is not going away. And it will take many small and big decisions to deal with the impacts of climate change. The Sunrise Good and Green Events Policy (
passed on October 22
) is one of the “smaller” decisions that moves us in the right direction, and is supported by the Sunrise Sustainability Action Plan.
Many communities, mainly coastal, are regulating plastics in some capacity. Sunrise does not have a beach but we cannot deny the interconnection of our region’s resources, infrastructure, and community health and well-being.
Development of the Good and Green Events Policy was a collaborative effort with the Sustainability Advisory Board, and City Departments from Leisure Services to Police, Fire, and Utilities. The Sunrise Sustainability Intern Bridget Huston, a graduate student at Florida Atlantic University, was also key to the development of the policy and the pledge campaign.
Today, we are launching the
Pass Up Plastics Sunrise Pledge Campaign to engage and educate residents, visitors, and businesses to accompany the roll out of the Good and Green Events Policy which goes into effect January 1, 2020. We hope you will join us in the effort to reduce plastic pollution!
