The Chicken Fax

We all have moments in our practice that we would rather forget. What follows is mine. I was an eager young associate who wanted to impress my client and the partners in the firm. We were handling a tax case that had something to do with inventory tax and the valuation of baby chicks. I had researched the IRS Tax Code, regulations, tax treaties, and IRS rulings and was confident that the IRS agent’s position was untenable. I wanted to display my legal prowess to my client, so I prepared a letter to the client explaining our superior position and the IRS agent’s incompetence.

Lawyers Mutual NC Declares Dividend

For the thirteenth consecutive year, Lawyers Mutual’s Board of Directors has declared a policyholder dividend. This year’s dividend – approximately 8.1% of the final premium on your 2023 policy – will be paid in 2024 at policy expiration. Including this approximate $1.5 million dividend, which represents a 50% increase over the dividend declared in 2022, by the end of 2024, Lawyers Mutual will have returned $13.7 million to policyholders since 2011.

eCourts Expansion Announced for 2024

Track 4 eCourts will launch on April 29 in 10 counties (Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Vance and Warren.) County groupings have also been provided for Track 5, which will go live this summer, and Track 6, which will go live in the fall.
