Director's Message

Project Aquarius
Last month we talked about a few of the changes and improvements that are being implemented within MUFON. This month I want to explain Project Aquarius. The concept goes back as far as 1975, when the idea of a global, accessible UFO database was first discussed.

At that time computers were not as commonplace as today. So, it remained a dream until it was revisited around 1985. Computers were developing, and a group was put together to begin assembling the data and start a workable program. It languished. In the late nineties, the case management system (CMS)
began to develop and emerge. In 2013, the concept of a worldwide database came up again.
Now we had the technology to make it happen. The CMS was undergoing a massive overhaul, and I asked that a translation program be included so that the system could be utilized on a global scale. For whatever reason, the people developing the system ignored repeated requests.
So, finally, in 2019 the Board approved Project Aquarius, which is the reaching out to other organizations to join with us in the development of the largest
repository of translatable, accessible UFO data in the world.
We are now working with the Center for UFO Studies to assist it in
digitizing its extensive sighting files, and it’s hoped they ultimately will be combined with the Pandora files and the Stringfield data to produce the most amazing assembly of searchable UFO data ever developed.
In other parts of the world, notably with our friends in Europe and South America, vast amounts of data exist. We will be reaching out to organizations in these areas and inviting them to join us in this worldwide effort to develop the most comprehensive collection of UFO data on the planet.
There is a myriad of projects on the agenda, and it will take immense effort to put them into practice; I must tell you, however, that none of these would be possible without you: Our members, State Directors, State Officers, Investigators, Staff
and Supporters. It is because of you that we are here.

We are so grateful to have you.

MUFON CASES by T.L. Keller

Black Triangle Sighted Over Idaho

September 10, 2020; 8:22 PM

Case 111479: Steven (a pseudo-name), who lives in a wooded, mountainous region near Athol, Idaho, spotted a black triangular craft moving at the speed of a small aircraft from east to west toward his house. Steven estimated the craft to be between 30 feet to 100 feet in length and traveling at about 60 miles per hour. There were no flashing lights, no red or green navigation lights (as required by the FAA). There were lights in each corner of the triangle, though he did not specify what color(s). When it approached his house, the triangle stopped, then hovered for a short time and then proceeded along the same path and altitude of approximately 1,000 feet, and at the “same speed” (testimony below differs from sketch). As the craft passed over his head at an 85° elevation, it blocked out the star field above. The craft was completely silent, and there were no emissions. See Steven’s sketch below
Steven’s description of the event follows:

“This sighting took place on 9-10-2020 at approximately 8:22 pm. I noticed the craft traveling in a westerly direction at a speed comparable to a small single engine aircraft. The craft made no sound, stopped in mid-air, hovered for approximately 5 seconds, then took off in the same direction at the same speed. The craft was [a] triangle with lights on each point. The craft appeared black against the night sky except for three lights at the points. There were no flashing lights or red or green lights at the tips. The craft blocked out the stars as it silently moved west. I watched the craft fly out of sight beyond the trees.”

"Triangle Shaped Lights" Over Malaysia

September 24, 2020; 10:08 PM

Case 111564: At a little after 10 PM in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, Etienne [last name withheld] was just outside his building looking upward. He observed two blue lights in proximity to one orange light. There was a second orange light at some distance. All of the lights (let’s call them orbs) were unwavering, there were no emissions and there was no sound. The orbs remained stationary at all times. They were at an altitude of more than 500 feet and directly overhead. After taking a 10-minute, telephone call, the orbs had disappeared.

Etienne’s description of the orbs above the building follows:

“I was standing outside my building and then looked at the sky. It was cloudy, but lights appeared in the sky above my building: one orange [-shaped] form with two blue lights and one orange and aside from that was another orange light. I took a phone call and [the] next time I looked [into] the sky, about 10 minutes later, nothing was there anymore. No sound and [no] moving shape.”

Commentary

To this writer’s eye, the enlarged photograph above appears to show two, very indistinct, blue-colored orbs in close proximity to a single orange orb (far right). Separated from those three orbs appears to be a second, indistinct, orange-colored orb (far left). The witness used the words “triangle-shaped lights” in his short, written description. Perhaps Etienne meant “triangle-shaped configuration of two blue lights and one orange light and aside from that was another orange light.” Unfortunately, we’ll never know. The field investigator’s report (Form 30) was devoid of any written analysis, so we’ll definitely have to conclude it was something of an “unknown” origin.
