TamaranchOlympics Scouts BSA Fall Camporee --- October 4-6
Six Marin Troops registered seven Scout patrols, but there is still room for more this weekend at the TamaranchOlympics! We'll be getting settled in after backpacking in to camp Friday night and start out early Saturday morning with opening ceremonies and fun patrol competitions followed by an afternoon of training presentations along the Trail to First Class! Dinner will include the famous Golden Spoon cook-off like "Iron Chef" with backpacker's twist, and we will hike to the top of Mt. Olympus (White Hill) to howl at the Moon, followed by a crackerbarrel social in Shady Bend campsite. Knock off some of those pesky requirements or learn new skills for your unit by starting off your Fall camping activities right!

BSA Certified Angler Instructor Course starts October 9 |
Help Your Council or Unit Deliver a Quality Fishing Program! This course is designed to give Scouters tools and ideas to get Scouts fishing. We will ignite your desire to introduce Scouts to the wonderful world of fishing. A recent Scout Life magazine survey found that Scouts chose fishing as the fourth most preferred outdoor activity, yet only 35% actually go fishing within the Scouting program. You can become a Fishing Advocate for your unit or council and utilize fishing as a good tool for Recruitment & Retention. Share your passion for fishing with youth by getting trained this October! See further details here!

Marin Water District Nature Activities --- October 19
Habitat Restoration from 9am to 12noon
This fall, Marin Water and One Tam are offering a special event series that begins with a morning of habitat restoration, followed by an afternoon nature walk. Help protect the watershed and explore Marin’s unique biodiversity by joining us for the first event to kick off the season! The Mt. Tam Watershed’s grassy meadows are home to sun-loving plants and animals and are hunting grounds for birds of prey. The fruits of our open canopy hardwoods – oak, bay and madrone trees – nourish abundant forest wildlife. Help us improve the oak woodland and grassland habitat near Bon Tempe Lake by removing invasive French broom. You’ll help uncover healthy plant communities that support a high diversity of wildlife.
Registration is encouraged, but not required. This family-friendly activity is suitable for ages 8 and up, with parental supervision required for volunteers under 16. All first-time volunteers must sign our Volunteer Service Agreement, and all volunteers under 18 must have the form signed by a parent or guardian. Meeting location is Lake Lagunitas parking lot at 9 am sharp! Parking passes, tools, gloves, snacks and water are provided to volunteers. Please dress for variable weather and bring a water bottle.
| |
Guided Nature Walk from 1pm to 3pm
Join naturalists on a guided nature walk around Lake Lagunitas and celebrate the changing season by exploring the wet woods and lakeshore. One Tam’s Community Steward and Engagement Fellows will share their knowledge and appreciation for the rich ecological history of the area.
This nature walk will take place after the morning habitat restoration activity, and you are welcome to join either or both events that day. This is a family-friendly activity and minors under the age of 16 must have a guardian present. Meeting location is at Lake Lagunitas parking lot at 1 p.m. sharp! Parking passes are not provided to those not participating in the morning habitat restoration event. Please purchase a parking pass across from the Sky Oaks Ranger Station.

A Monthly News Bulletin for OA Lodge Members
Talako Lodge is excited to share the incredible highlights from our recent Conclave among the redwoods at Camp Royaneh! It was an unforgettable weekend where we had the privilege of meeting the National Chief—the highest-ranking OA Scout in the nation—as well as other esteemed members of the national committee. Our contingent, led by our very own Lodge Chief Helen P., led our ceremonies team to dominate an important competition. To top it all off, we witnessed the election of our immediate past Lodge Chief Finn D., to the role of Section Chief—an extraordinary achievement within the regional structure.
Looking ahead, we have some exciting events on the horizon! From October 4–6, we’ll be on staff for the annual Fall Camporee at Tamarancho where troops from across Marin will participate in the TamaranchOlympics—it promises to be a weekend full of fun and spirited competition. On the weekend of October 18–20, we'll be holding our Fall Induction Weekend also at Tamarancho, where we'll welcome many new Arrowmen into our lodge.
Talako Lodge always punches above its weight class, but this year has been something special. Congratulations to Finn, our ceremonies team, and everyone who helped make this year’s Conclave a huge success. Let's keep the energy going as we head into these exciting upcoming events!
