A message from the Director
Shanon Shea Miller, AICP
At the end of October, the Power of Preservation Foundation held its sixth annual Power of Preservation PROMendade at the Villita Assembly Building. More than 500 people attended, with all proceeds supporting the rehabilitation of the Kelso House in the Monte Vista historic district .
I'd like to extend a huge thank you to all of this year's sponsors and individual ticket holders for making this year's PROM our biggest ever! The event reminds us how lucky we are to have the support of so many for preserving the built and cultural heritage of our city. We saw attendees not only from architecture, planning, and real estate firms, but also people from across the city with a vested interest in preservation, including our elected officials and community leaders. Congressman Lloyd Doggett and City Council members Cruz Shaw (District 2), Rebecca Viagran (District 3), and Clayton Perry (District 10) were all in attendance.
Our city needs your continued support as we face the possible elimination of the federal Historic Tax Credit. Recently proposed tax reform legislation by the House omits the program which has been integral to the revitalization of main streets and historic corridors nationwide since its implementation in 1981. Then, the Senate version of the bill retains the credit with some changes, which is encouraging. The program costs taxpayers nothing but has introduced millions of dollars and tens of thousands of jobs into the U.S. economy. This important program is responsible for dozens of historic restoration and adaptive reuse projects in San Antonio. Consider contacting your representatives to ask for their support of the Historic Tax Credit. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has made it easy for you to do so.
The entire team at OHP wishes you a very happy Thanksgiving with friends and family. We appreciate you!
