Professor Jones' Docudrama Featured at Centennial Commemoration of Rosewood


SJGC professor Kenneth Jones' Rosewood docudrama was featured during an event series for a 100 year commemoration of the Rosewood, Fla. massacre.


The 100-year old tragedy led to the Rosewood descendants becoming the first African Americans to receive reparations in America.

Professor Johnson Featured on WTXL during News Literacy Week


SJGC Professor Maurice Johnson was featured in a WTXL segment during News Literacy Week on January 24.


Johnson spoke on the ramifications of misinformations and how he educates his students about identifying trustworthy news sources.

Senior Journalism Student Creates Innovative Content at CNBC



Edna Rutland, a senior journalism student at Florida A&M University's School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC), spent her past summer in New York interning with CNBC’s Make It digital team.


Through this internship, Rutland was able to edit, write, interview and film content that covered the culture of the entrepreneurial economy.

Google + SJGC: A Collaborative Course on UX Design



During the fall 2022 semester, Google returned to the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication to continue the Shape Co-Lab initiative—a program designed to provide HBCU students with access to user experience (UX) curriculum and companies like Google. This semester, the UX practicum course was taught by a group of designers, researchers, and product managers from Google’s Chromebook team.

Graphic Design student named AT&T Rising Future Maker


Andre McClain, a sophomore SGJC graphic design student, has been recently selected as an AT&T Rising Future Maker. This inaugural class sponsored by AT&T champions 25 students from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) for exemplifying service on campus and in their communities.


The Jacksonville, Fla., native aspires to become a graphic designer for major corporations and believes that this program is the first step to achieving his dreams.

SJGC Public Relations Students Attend 2022 AdPR Academy


Florida A&M University School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC) students Germanie Bozeman, Brandi Roman, LeBaron Fields, Kimiya Watkins were hand-selected by instructors in SJGC’s public relations sequence to attend the 2022 AdPR Academy at the University of Georgia.


The educational outreach program is “designed to amplify the power of diversity, equity and inclusion while growing the pipeline of diverse advertising and public relations professionals.” The 2022 Academy was held in Atlanta from Nov. 9-13.

FAMU PRSSA Hosts St. Jude Challenge


The St. Jude Influencer Marketing challenge has come to FAMU. SJGC PR students have the opportunity to participate in teams to present a comprehensive public relations plan. The project focuses on launching a new influencer relationship supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, with the goal of deepening brand engagement with Gen Z audiences.


The PR challenge is a semester long project that kicked off on January 25 and will end in early April.

Brea Hollingsworth Joins CBS 17 News This Morning As Morning Anchor


CBS 17 News in Raleigh, NC has announced FAMU alumna, Brea Hollingsworth, as co-anchor of CBS 17 News This Morning. She will anchor alongside Bill Young on weekdays from 4:30 a.m.-7 a.m. 

Hollingsworth is a 2018 broadcast graduate. She joined CBS 17 in November 2021 as a reporter. Prior to that, she spent three years at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, FL.

SJGC Alumna Aiyana Ishmael Produces Viral Fashion Reporting


SJGC alumna Aiyana Ishmael recently reported on plus-size alternatives to celebrity style in her Teen Vogue story “I Dressed Like Bella Hadid for a Week to Find the Best Plus-Size Alternatives.” The piece has received widespread acclaim across social media and within the industry for its ingenuity and authentic voice on the marginalization of plus-sized and Black women in fashion.

Nolan McCaskill Wins Young Journalist of Excellence Award



Nolan D. McCaskill accepted the Young Journalist of Excellence Award on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022 at the Washington Association of Black Journalists’ inaugural Special Honors Awards Gala in Washington, D.C. McCaskill is a congressional reporter at the Los Angeles Times and a 2014 SJGC alumnus.
