E-Messenger Aug. 27, 2020
FROM THE RECTOR

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Last night, just after I had finished Pints with Priests, my phone lit up with text messages from Caitlyn. The messages were pictures of people praying together on the steps of the church. My response to her was, "It's starting to look like church!" Her reply was, "It sure feels like it." It sure feels like it.

When I first arrived at St. Martin's, I had a list of goals, and I had a list of expectations from the search committee. Some of those goals have been completed; others still need a lot of work, and because of COVID, some of those goals no longer seem important. COVID has changed us, changed our church, and changed our community. In the midst of this change, I think it is important to focus on what we the church are supposed to be doing.

For me, it boils down to three things. First and foremost, we are called to worship our Lord Jesus Christ. Secondly, we are called to serve. And finally, we are called on to share the good news of Christ. Worship, Serve, Share.

It felt good to gather in front of the church and pray with you all this week! It felt like church. It felt like worship. It felt good. COVID has kept us apart and, yet, as we regather (albeit, in a physically distanced way), we have an opportunity to reorient our lives and the life of our church around the very essence of the gospel. Worship is the core of who we are. It's been great to pray with you. It feels like church.

In Christ,
Mitch+
