FROM THE RECTOR

Dear St. Martin's Family,

This time of year always brings back memories -- shopping for new shoes and school supplies, maybe a lunch box. Getting together with friends again, football games, brand new spiral notebooks and three-ring binders. And, oh, the smell of mimeographed worksheets! (I know, I'm showing my age here...).

As our children and teachers prepare to head back to school in this age of Covid-19, some things are similar and some are profoundly different. Those returning to in-class learning will find their classrooms acutely altered with hand sanitizer, masks and physical distancing a new part of life. Our teachers have been incredibly hard at work preparing safe classrooms, or upgrading their virtual learning plans. For all of us, but perhaps especially for our teachers, children, and families, this has been a chaotic and uncertain time with the ways to move forward frequently changing.

As we watch our beloved children and young people return to schools and colleges, as we walk alongside our teachers and faculty who are part of the St. Martin's family, I ask that you pray for all of them in the weeks ahead. We have listed their names below so that you can pray for them individually, and if we've inadvertently left any names off, please let us know right away so we can add that name to the list.

We are family at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, and we love each other fiercely. I find comfort in that reality as we walk in this pandemic desert time, knowing that not only does God have our backs, but we have each other's backs as well. Each and every one of you is a blessing, and I am grateful.

Faithfully,
Susan+

WEEKDAY WORSHIP TO BEGIN AUG. 24
Outdoor services to begin soon
St. Martin's will begin offering in-person, weekday worship starting the week of Aug. 24.

Daily prayer services will take place on the Point (on the sidewalk in front of the church), Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., beginning Aug. 24. Wednesday services are adult-only. Masks and social distancing will be required at all services.

Parishioners are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, Book of Common Prayer and Bible though all will be available if needed. While this will be very different from the worship we are accustomed to, we so look forward to worshiping with you in person again.

For more information about the class, the cost to take part and how materials are ordered, please contact Terri at [email protected].
CHILDREN & YOUTH
Congrats, Camp Gravatt staffer!
A special congratulations to St. Martin's member Lane Poteat, who was one of two recipients of the Camp Gravatt 2020 Archdeacon Frederick C. Byrd Award for Outstanding Staffer of the Year! Lane is pictured here with the other recipient, Hayden Ifkovits. This is what Camp Gravatt had to say about these two: "Despite this new and difficult territory, these two staff members went above and beyond each day and truly embodied what it means to be a Gravatt staff member. They were beaming sources of motivation, kindness, unity, and Christ’s love." St. Martin's stands as a strong supporter of the work of Camp Gravatt and is deeply appreciative of all its staffers, especially those with St. Martin's roots!
Tucked-in at Bedtime Storytime this Sunday at 7 p.m., on the church's YouTube channel. (These stories are also posted on the church's main Facebook page at the same time, and later in the week on the children's FB page.)
