Accepting Substitute Assignments
In order to remain an active substitute with Tacoma Public Schools, you are required to accept an average of 2 jobs per month. Jobs can be picked up any time of day via phone or online but especially the morning of the assignment, as your availability allows.

If there has been a change in your availability, please reach out to the Substitute Services office at 253-571-1260 or Suboffice@tacoma.k12.wa.us.
Right Response Training
Reminder to visit the Professional Development website to register for and complete Right Response Training for substitute Education Support Professionals who work in Special Education classes.
Flu Vaccines for All TPS Staff
The first and best way to protect against the flu is to get a yearly flu vaccine. TPS is partnering with Kirks Pharmacy to provide the flu vaccine at two TPS locations on Thursday, Oct. 20.

2022 Great Washington ShakeOut - October 20, 2022

District-wide Spirit Days
Spirit days allow us to have fun and build relationships with our students and colleagues that directly supports the climate and culture in our buildings, because together we are better.

The five spirit day themes are:
*October 21: Tacoma Day
*January 20: College and Career Day
*February 24: Give-back Day
*April 14: Athletics Day
*May 19: Blast From the Past Day

Important Reminders
Tacoma Public Schools is Hiring and We're Offering Bonuses!
Have you heard about our referral and hiring bonuses?

​​​​​​​Now is the time to refer those amazing educators you know to TPS! Current TPS employees are eligible to receive a $150 bonus for every candidate they refer and is later hired into any district job. Retirees are also eligible to receive a $250 bonus for returning to work.

Make sure anyone you refer includes your name on their application where it asks how they learned about the open position. If they are hired, HR will follow-up with anyone listed as a referral. Contact Substitute Services if you have any questions or concerns.
Annual Safeschools Required Training

Don't forget to complete your required annual SafeSchools training, due December 31, 2022, for the 2022-2023 school year.

On the PD website, you will have access to the Course Catalog for upcoming trainings available to you at no cost. Check out the PD FAQ for additional information on how you can make the best of your learning opportunities.

Staff ID Badges - Always Required While Working

For the safety of students and staff, ID badges are always required while working and are needed to clock in for your substitute assignment. If you forget your badge, please speak with the Office Coordinator of the building for assistance with your myTime punch.

If your badge is lost or damaged,
call 253-571-1250 for a replacement.
Check Your District Email Account
​​​​​​​Important Sub Office and District information and communications are sent through TPS email and posted on the Staff Hub. It is important to check both your email and Staff Hub regularly throughout the school year.

If you are having trouble accessing your TPS email and/or Staff HUB please call the help desk at 253-571-HELP.

For assistance with Absence Management or accessing your account please reach out to the Sub Office at 253-571-1260. Note, you will need to have access to your District email to reset your password.
