Born in Warsaw, Poland, he was just six months old when World War II began. His family fled to Vilna, Lithuania, hoping for safety. The Nazis occupied Vilna, leading to the establishment of ghettos. Rishfeld’s parents decided to save their son by giving him to a Catholic family, the Fronckovics, who raised him as their own child. Despite the horrors of the Holocaust, Rishfeld’s parents survived, and he was reunited with them after the war. Rishfeld has dedicated his life to educating others about the Holocaust and its impact, sharing his story to inspire and raise awareness.

Trinity, Pass Christian

Join us to discuss Roland Merullo’s Driving Jesus to Little Rock. This book fits neatly on the shelf with his other beloved, quirky-spiritual books. This time, the narrator, Eddie Valpolicella, is on his way from Massachusetts to Arkansas to give a talk on "his" novel, Breakfast with Buddha, when, not far from home, he picks up a mysterious hitchhiker. Plainly dressed, insisting that he's a fan of the author, the hitchhiker claims to be Jesus, the Jesus, and accompanies Eddie on a five-day road trip that challenges him in an amusing variety of ways. Along the way there are meals and drinks, wrong turns and intriguing scenery, all brought into focus beside the book’s utterly original yet strangely believable Jesus. Driving Jesus to Little Rock amuses, illuminates, and entertains, ultimately serving as the perfect comfort-food for battered, post-Covid readers.

This issue highlights a call to protect the Southern landscape from the proposed 500-mile "fossil fuel superhighway" methane gas pipelines across Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi, offering direct ways to take action through the Southern Environmental Law Center.

Inside, the newsletter also previews a special March 9 gathering, "Lent and Lament," featuring The Rev. Payton Hoegh. This session explores how the wilderness of the Lenten season can provide the spiritual resilience and wisdom needed to act as healers for a wounded world.

Begin preparing for Earth Day 2026 with the theme "The Canopy of Creation." From tree-planting resources to "Advocacy 101" workshops, the newsletter provides the tools necessary for congregations to turn their worship and outreach into a powerful act of hope for the environment.

Lenten Video Series

from Seminary of the Southwest

Designed to accompany the first five weeks of Lent, this video series creates space for prayer, conversation, and faithful reflection on repentance, discipleship, and the promise of new life. Shaped by the voices of five women members of our faculty, these gatherings reflect both the depth of Southwest’s theological life and our commitment to forming leaders for ministry, service, and healing. Rooted in the Lenten journey, this project offers a hopeful reminder that even in times of change, God is at work bringing new life.

Lenten Meditations

from ERD

For 15 years, Episcopal Relief & Development has been blessed by the opportunity to join readers on their spiritual journeys with thought-provoking meditations.

Written by Sister Monica Clare, an Episcopal nun, author and unlikely TikTok star, our 2026 meditations offer an invitation to rediscover—or deepen—holy habits of prayer, worship and Scripture engagement. These holy habits provide a path to a life rooted in God, given shape, meaning and direction.

Visit the Episcopal Relief and Development website to subscribe to daily emails, download a PDF, read the meditations and access a Group Study Guide to reflect on the meditations and Scripture with others.

Lenten Resources

from ECF Vital Practices

Lent offers us the opportunity for self-examination, prayer, fasting, and reading the Bible. We invite you to engage with the following Lenten toolkit, comprised of resources from Vital Practices and other sources throughout The Episcopal Church. These resources should provide you and your congregation with ideas to help make good use of this time of reflection and practice.
