Annual Renewal Reminder
Discounted thru Monday, January 17!
Greetings!
The new "Friends of Tamarancho" membership passes have been available since December 1, 2021! The graphic designs shown below for ANNUAL (Wagon Wheel Trail 25th anniversary!) and GOLD (Alchemist Trail connecting the IRON Springs kiosk with GOLDman trail) passes, can be ordered at a discount price if you purchase for yourself (individual) or family (2 adults & 2 children) by Monday, January 17, 2022!
With the effects of the CoViD-19 pandemic lessening outdoors, we are now allowing mountain-bikers to travel around the loop in both directions. However, please keep in mind proper physical distancing while riding or when stopped to let others pass, and remember that suggested travel is still in a clockwise direction to improve traffic flow along the trails. Check out our newly-updated trails map!

WHEN IT RAINS, LET IT DRAIN!
Record-setting rainfall in November & December produced extended damp and muddy conditions on our trail network, showing the need for extraordinary trail maintenance efforts. Thanks to the entire community of riders for your patience while the trails were closed and we let the ground surface recover from excessive erosion! As a concerned member of the mountain-biking community, we would appreciate you reading this e-newsletter to find out how you can be a good recreation steward, and to find out how you can be more involved and have more fun out on the trails of Tamarancho!

Volunteer Trail Days in January 2022
Trail work season is here, that time of year when winter rains soften the ground, making track maintenance work easier. It's also a good time to give back, step up in your riding community and tune up the much-loved and heavily-used singletrack loop. Join friendly Marin mountain-bike volunteers led by Access4Bikes to improve the trails for better riding! Each Saturday date listed below contains a link to sign-up for the trail day. All information is included, so please show up if you sign up!

As trail users, it is our responsibility to be stewards of the lands we impact. This past winter of 2021, A4B volunteers logged over 1000 hrs of trail work maintaining and improving some of our favorite rides. Local videographer J. P. Rose was there working side by side with volunteers while simultaneously capturing and documenting the effort!
With your help over the last two trail work seasons in partnership with Access4Bikes, volunteers restored significant portions of the classic Tamarancho loop including mitigating downslope erosion and rebuilding several switchbacks on B-17, tread work on Endor, building a boardwalk over meadow area on Serpentine as well as addressing drainage and pulling invasive Scotch and French broom throughout the loop.
This winter we will tackle both routine maintenance as well as some notable projects like a new bridge over slide damage on Broken Dam trail. Tools, instruction, and lunch will be provided. Please bring water, gloves, good footwear, and a snack. See you out there!

Public Bathroom Access @ Camp Tamarancho
For your convenience, remember that there are only two locations on the Tamarancho Trail Loop where riders are allowed near the regular camp facilities to access the vault toilets and hand-wash stations on the Scout property. In addition to the water station by the front gate, these are shown on the updated map. Please help us maintain these bathrooms and keep them clean for all users!
The northern access is located at the J-7 intersection on Broken Dam Trail leading uphill from the forest onto the fire road through a chain gate 100 yrds to the Ghilotti Family Camping area.
The southern access is located at the J-2 intersection of Goldman and Serpentine Trails (shown in photo) leading north a quarter-mile along the fire road to the Twin Cities Campground.

Tamarancho Trail Pass Patrol Volunteers
All mountain-bike riders at Tamarancho must have a current One-Day pass, or an ANNUAL or GOLD pass. Some riders have day pass stickers from a bike store, some have the plastic membership passes attached to their bikes or packs, and others have pass receipt saved on their cell phone.
Overall compliance has been fairly good, but still there are a number of riders who are "poaching" on the private property owned by the Marin Council, BSA. This is a youth recreation facility, so technically it is considered to be similar to school grounds regarding youth protection from strangers and unknown adults trespassing without a Friends of Tamarancho pass.
Expect to see volunteer Tamarancho Pass Patrol members in orange vests checking passes on the trails. These volunteers will also be available to give directions, answer questions, and handout information about the membership program. Support bike-legal singletrack in Marin. Make sure you and the friends you are riding with all have a pass!
