MIU Golden Jubilee
POSTPONED
|
In a few weeks, we will make a definitive announcement regarding a possible late October date, or, if circumstances require, a further postponement until Spring.
|
|
Based on the strong upsurgence of the Covid viirus the decision has been made by Management in consultation with our Trustees to postpone our grand Celebration until a time when we can really enjoy it—a time when many more people will be willing to come, when masking and social distancing won’t be necessary, and when we can accommodate many more guests at our various indoor events.
One important exception: The honoring of our great Trustee Emeritus, Dr. Vernon Katz. As you may know (though Vernon may not) we planned to have a grand re-commemoration and dedication of our beautiful Vastu building, Maharishi Veda Bhavan, home of our Maharishi Vedic Science Department and programs, in honor of Vernon. We have created a beautiful bronze plaque and planned a gala ribbon-cutting ceremony, to re-open and re-commission this newly re-furbished building as Maharishi Veda Bhavan – In Honor of Dr. Vernon Katz. Since this ceremony involves a small number of speakers, can be easily socially distanced, and will be held outside, we will proceed as planned with this celebration honoring Vernon—on September 3rd or 4th. All MVS faculty and MVS staff and MVS students will be invited to participate and celebrate in person, within the constraints imposed by social distancing.

Dr. Tony Nader Consciousness Symposium (July 25 - 30) videos now available here for viewing
|
The first session explored the question, "What is Consciousness? Why Consciousness Is Primary and What This Means For You.” Subsequent sessions explored the role of consciousness in education, health and wellness, mental health, leadership and governance, business and economic development, and higher states of human development.
Each session featured leading experts in the field. They included scientists, physicians, educators, government and diplomatic leaders (including a former head of state), business leaders, entrepreneurs, and executive coaches.
In each session Dr. Nader, Dr. Hagelin, and the panelists discussed the critical challenges facing each field, why consciousness is fundamental to the field, and how development of consciousness through the Transcendental Meditation program can help address the key challenges.
Each session features a stimulating and thoughtful exchange of ideas, all centering around the theme that from the underlying, fundamental and universal level of consciousness, we really can solve the world’s problems and make life work for everyone.
Based on the success of this symposium, planning has begun for a series of symposia to be held over this next year.

Take Your Experience to the Next Level with an Advanced Technique
of the TM Program
|
|
Saturday August 28th at the Maharishi Peace Palace
|
“The purpose of Advanced Techniques is to take the experience to another, higher level. Advanced Techniques are like fertilizers; fertilizers bring better fruit to every tree. To enjoy greater achievement and fulfillment in life, take advantage of this beautiful program of Advanced Techniques to enrich the development of higher states of consciousness.” —TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Q: What are Advanced Techniques?
A: Like the TM technique, Advanced Techniques are easily-practiced mental techniques that accelerate personal growth. During TM, we experience a fourth state of consciousness, a state of restful alertness that dissolves stress, enhances brain functioning, and balances the body and emotions. Advanced Techniques speed up the integration of this state with our regular daily activity, bringing faster results from our TM practice.
Q: How many are there?
A: There are four Advanced Techniques brought to light by Maharishi in his Vedic Science and Technology, the Science and Technology of Consciousness. The first is practiced for a few minutes before going to sleep. The second, third, and fourth Advanced Techniques are effortlessly incorporated into your twice-daily TM practice.
Q: Do I learn them all at once or one at a time?
A: One at a time and in sequence. You’ll practice an Advanced Technique at least two to four months before adding the next one.
Q: Who teaches the Advanced Techniques?
A: Specially trained, highly experienced certified TM teacher Mario Orsatti has been teaching the TM technique since 1973 and the Advanced Technique courses for the last 4 years. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Health and Wellness at the David Lynch Foundation, where he oversees TM programs for government and military leaders in Washington, D.C., and for business executives in New York City. He will be present at each session for instruction and verification.
Q: Who can learn, and how do I know if I’m ready?
A: You must have practiced TM regularly, twice a day, for a minimum of the last two months to be eligible to apply for an Advanced Technique. Each technique is simple—easy to learn, easy to practice—and, best of all, enjoyable! That said, if you’d like our advice regarding your personal readiness, just give us a call.
Q: What is the course structure?
A: The course consists of three sessions:
- First, an orientation meeting (1½ hours)
- Second, personal instruction in the appropriate Advanced Technique (2–3 hours)
- Third, a checking meeting the following day to answer questions and verify the correctness of your practice (2 hours)
Orientation: An orientation meeting is an opportunity to learn more about Advanced Techniques. It is free, and there is no obligation to take the course. But if you want to learn an Advanced Technique at this time, you must attend the orientation meeting and then fill out an application form. Here is the schedule of orientation meetings:
Friday, August 27th, 2PM
Personal Instruction: Saturday August 28th
Checking Meeting: Sunday August 29th 9:30am & 11am
Q: How do I begin?
A: Please choose one of the orientation meetings, and respond by email at wdevasierl@tm.org or call 641-919-8188 or 641-919-1300. If the orientation meeting times don’t work for you, let us know, and we will find another time to meet with you.

Monthly One Minute HR Laugh Break
I know that I'm supposed to say that I'll have limited access to email, but...
I'll check emails when I'm not chasing my grand kids.
Happy July! My brain needed a break, so I decided to go on vacation with 4 kids under the age of 5. If I return in one piece, I'll reply to your message by the end of business on July 30th.
Thank you for always bringing a smile to my face.
It is so silly that it makes you laugh.
And the last but not least...Thank you, I needed that!

CEOWORLD Magazine Publishes "A Yogi's Take on Stress and Burnout"
July 20, 2021, 10:15 GMT
Some experts want a four-day work week to reduce exposure to stress, but the many sources of stress in life require an inner approach for more resilience
"Throughout India what was being promoted in the name of meditation was less effective concentration and focusing techniques, and that's now happening in America." — Jay B. Marcus
EEG brain wave measurements during sleep and Transcendental Meditation. The mountains or spindles show periods when there is especially high brain wave coherence. As seen, during TM there is significantly more brain coherence than during sleep.
|
|
Jay Marcus, the author of the op-ed, has been a TM meditator and yoga practitioner for 50 years. He says, “The yogi who introduced the TM technique for overcoming stress is Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. His technique is effective because it doesn't involve focusing, concentrating, or monitoring, and gives us calmness and balance. This allows the body to function more coherently, repairing the damage caused by stress and increasing resilience.” Marcus says, “Focusing and monitoring techniques don’t have the same calming effect as TM because the effort of focusing or monitoring thoughts, the breath, or heartbeat is itself activity, which is counter-productive to allowing the mind to gain the most settled and coherent state.”
Marcus says, "With TM, Maharishi revived the classical meditation of ancient India. Instead, throughout India what was being promoted in the name of meditation was less effective concentration and focusing techniques, and that’s now happening in America.”
Wallace, Marcus, and Chris Clark, MD (a Yale-trained psychiatrist) are co-authors of The Coherence Effect book, which discusses meditation and other strategies to reduce stress. One of those interviewed for the book is Josh Griffith, head writer for a popular TV series. He said:
"In the world of daytime TV, you’re having to create five shows a week. As head writer [The Young and the Restless] I was responsible for all the stories that aired. I walked away from it a few years ago because I felt burned out. Then I started doing TM. I thought I was a meditator before starting TM. Boy, was I wrong!

An Interview With Our Guest Editor, Jonah Hill
Over the years we’ve had some pretty incredible guest editors—Mike D, Steph Gilmore, Stanley Donwood—and they’ve all been really cool, but I think I speak for everyone at Monster Children when I say working with Jonah Hill was the best.
|
|
What about Bob Roth? Actually, can I just quickly say that Bob Roth, the head of Transcendental Meditation in the US, is the nicest, chillest dude ever. I got dropped into an email with him when we were setting this up and he was like, ‘Oh hey, Jason. Yeah, an interview with Monster Children would be great.’ He was so nice and normal on an email from a magazine he’d probably never heard of.
It’s that Transcendental Meditation!
It is! You’re a TM dude, obviously.
Yeah! When we hang up, I’m gonna get in my second session for the day.
I signed up for TM last year, did the course, scored the mantra, and then ended up back on Headspace. I struggled with it. But I got Bob’s email now, so maybe I’ll hit him up for some pointers.
That’s what’s cool about Bob, you can email him and he’ll email you right back; and not just me or a magazine or whatever—he’ll reply to any person who is interested. He dedicates his life to this, and it’s really dope. TM along with surfing, I’d say that those two things have changed my happiness level and my ability to cope with stress, anxiety and depression. Those two things in tandem have really helped.
