Trojan On The Move: VSU Alumna Shirley Adkins Wooten
Congratulations to Shirley Adkins Wooten, VSU Class of 1972, on her new gospel exercise CD and upcoming DVD entitled "Exercise Your Temple and Lay Aside Your Weight."

Many who have listened to the CD have been inspired to create healthy lifestyles through exercise and eating. God inspired her to write the lyrics to the song which consists of scriptures and positive affirmations.

Even though she is 71 years of age with two total knee replacements, Shirley leads exercise classes on her Facebook page, which have gone viral, on Mondays and Thursdays at 7PM CST.

Virginia State University No Longer Requires Employees To Be COVID Vaccinated or Tested
Virginia State University said Thursday it will comply with a directive from Gov. Glenn Youngkin to not require COVID-19 vaccines for state employees, opting to go instead with a policy that "strongly requests, encourages, and appeals to" university personnel to get their shots.
University spokesperson Gwen Williams Dandridge confirmed in an email to The Progress-Index that vaccines will not be required, nor will reporting of an employee's vaccination status or being tested "as a term of employment." Masks, however, will still be mandated for everyone on campus.

Become A VSU Class Coordinator
The VSU Class Coordinator Program is comprised of a loyal group of alumni who represent their individual class years. Class Coordinators are considered University ambassadors, charged with helping to build a strong connection between classmates and the University.

Class Coordinators are some of the most valuable volunteers for the University. Job requirements are simple: a minimal time commitment and the interest to keep in touch with VSU classmates and friends. Being a class coordinator is great way to remain involved after graduation and you can be as active as your schedule will allow.

Class Coordinators work with the VSU Alumni Office to:

  • Communicate on a regular basis with classmates; either via letter, phone call, e-mail, or social networking Web sites.
  • Keep classmates up-to-date on VSU events and news.
  • Encourage and increase participation in alumni activities (regional events, Alumni Reunion, etc.)
  • Brainstorm additional ways to keep your class connected.
  • Serve as a member of the reunion planning committee in your special reunion years.
  • Promote class giving and participation
  • Provide the University of Institutional Advancement with updated contact information on classmates

If you would like to become a class coordinator please contact the VSU Alumni Relations Office at (804) 524- 5045 or send an email to: alumni@vsu.edu

(If you don't see your class year represented please consider becoming a coordinator)
