What College Student Debt Relief Means For Virginians
|
|
VSU Alumna Tiffany Gullins knows the exact amount of student loan debt she owes to the federal government, down to the dollar: $83,593. “It’s a number that’s stamped in my mind,” said Gullins, 30, a development coordinator for the Massey Cancer Center. “It definitely always felt like, ‘How am I ever going to pay this off?’”
Thanks to the debt relief policy President Joe Biden announced last week, the government will reduce her amount due by $20,000. The remaining $64,000 is a lot, but the reduction was enough for her to consider what other costs she can now afford. Replacing her car, attaining the doctorate degree she’s long considered and traveling more are at the top of her list.

Become A VSU Class Coordinator
|
|
The VSU Class Coordinator Program is comprised of a loyal group of alumni who represent their individual class years. Class Coordinators are considered University ambassadors, charged with helping to build a strong connection between classmates and the University.
Class Coordinators are some of the most valuable volunteers for the University. Job requirements are simple: a minimal time commitment and the interest to keep in touch with VSU classmates and friends. Being a class coordinator is great way to remain involved after graduation and you can be as active as your schedule will allow.
Class Coordinators work with the VSU Alumni Office to:
- Communicate on a regular basis with classmates; either via letter, phone call, e-mail, or social networking Web sites.
- Keep classmates up-to-date on VSU events and news.
- Encourage and increase participation in alumni activities (regional events, Alumni Reunion, etc.)
- Brainstorm additional ways to keep your class connected.
- Serve as a member of the reunion planning committee in your special reunion years.
- Promote class giving and participation
- Provide the University of Institutional Advancement with updated contact information on classmates
If you would like to become a class coordinator please contact the VSU Alumni Relations Office at (804) 524- 5045 or send an email to: alumni@vsu.edu
(If you don't see your class year represented please consider becoming a coordinator)
