The City of Volga 2025 Tree Program is now active!

Volga Tree Program Program Description

The Volga Tree Program is designed to continue growth, provide long term sustainability, and enhance the beauty of Volga’s trees.

Program Start Date:

Earth Day - April 22nd - Tree purchase receipts must be dated April 22, 2025 or later.

Eligibility

The program is open to City of Volga residents or businesses that are within city limits.

Benefits

Maximum of two trees per property per year. (NOTE: Trees planted in boulevard areas will require City approval prior to planting and reimbursement. Please call City Hall at (605) 627-9113 for additional information.

Tree Species

The list of approved trees is available on our website, www.volgacity.com. If a tree is desired to be planted that is not on our approved tree list, please call the City Administrator before purchasing to verify. A tree not on the approved list and is not approved by the City Administrator will not be eligible for reimbursement.

Cost

*Approved participants will receive a reimbursement for up to $125 per tree planted with the submission of a paid receipt and completed application. (NOTE: receipt must identify the tree species and size.) *Reimbursements may take up to four weeks after submittal – (checks will be issued through City Hall and mailed out)

Where



Trees may be planted on your own property or on City boulevards (with location approval). Violators of planting locations may become ineligible for future reimbursements.

How to Apply

1. Decide which trees you’d like to plant and where to plant your trees. Note: If you’d like one on the boulevard, please contact us to determine the location. o No boulevard trees other than those trees listed as small trees may be planted under or within ten lateral feet of any overhead utility line, or over or within five lateral feet of any underground water line, sewer line or electric line. o No tree plantings will be allowed within an alley right-of-way. o The clear space distance between the curb and sidewalk must be four feet for a small tree, six feet for a medium tree and eight feet for a large tree.

2. All trees must be on the preferred/acceptable tree list. Deciduous trees must be a minimum of six feet tall, and spruce, pine, and juniper trees must be a minimum of two feet tall.

3. Purchase your trees and save the receipt(s).

4. Bring your receipt(s) to City Hall and fill out a contact information form to receive your reimbursement. Funds are limited and will be allocated on a first come/first-rebated basis.
