2023 Year In Review

With 2023 now behind us and with the start of 2024, it's always great to reflect on the past year and what has been accomplished. Here are some highlights:

-The Volga Water Tower continued to be worked on and the tank was raised from the ground to the top this summer in a unique fashion that many residents parked along 6th Street or watched from their backyards. The tank is expected to be fully operational in late January.

-Seventy-two building permits were filed at city hall which range from garden sheds, new homes, fences, multi-family units, or new garages. Fifty-seven permits were filed in 2022 and sixty-seven permits were filed in 2021. Nine permits for new single family homes were filed along with two multi-family structures. Eight commercial buildings were built, added onto, or remodeled.

-Old Timers Day weekend was held in June with many people gathered along with a heavy rain shower Saturday afternoon!

-Two new wells were constructed and added to our water distribution system.

-The electric transmission tie project began and is expected to be completed this summer.

-The Easter Egg Scramble and Candy Krawl on Kasan saw another high turnout of kids in attendance.

-New programs were added to the Parks & Recreation list with great overall participation.

-Fifty-one new trees were planted through the Volga Tree Program.

-Sales tax revenue collected in 2023 hit another all-time high at just over $861,000. For reference, $741,553 was collected in 2022 and $666,718 was collected in 2021.

We look forward to serving you in 2024 and

continue to grow and progress as a city!
