Ben Nicks, 100 years young, WWII B-29 Pilot. Ben's last mission was mining a harbor (by dropping mines instead of bombs) in Japanese-occupied Korea. Korea was so far away that the crew had to stop on Iwo Jima to refuel on both legs of the trip. While crossing Japan on the way home, the radio message was received, the first A-bomb had been dropped on Hiroshima. They were flying only 50 miles South of the explosion.

We are being paid to take the Stearman to Wings over Weatherford this weekend, September 28, 2019. This is a long trip. Weatherford is East of Oklahoma City, about a 6 hour drive. The Stearman is departing on Friday the 27 and returning on Sunday the 29
th
.

Wings over Dallas is October 25-27. It is held at Dallas Executive Airport home of CAF HQ. This years line is to include: TORA TORA TORA, PBJ "Semper Fi", FM2 Wildcat, Corsair, F6F Hellcat, SBD Dauntless, SB2C Helldiver, PBJ"Devel Dog" F8F Bearcat, TBM Avenger, B-24 "Diamond Lil", P-51 Mustang and B-29 "FIFI"
All members are welcome to volunteer. HQ asks that you sign up here:

The aircraft on display at Navy Park across the field are not just planes on static display they have a real-life history. Back in his Naval Aviator days, wing member Larry Rinne flew this actual airplane, as shown in his logbook. His primary mission was flying F-4 Phantoms off aircraft carriers during the Vietnam War.
