For senior Zhane Ramirez, service and leadership go hand in hand.

It was a great turnout at the Choose CSUSB Day at the Palm Desert Campus event on March 14, attracting more than 200 students, family members and guests.

Students who have been admitted to CSUSB for the fall 2026 semester, along with their families and guests, visited the Palm Desert Campus for a day of exploration and engagement. The event saw immediate success, with many student attendees submitting their intent to enroll and officially become Coyotes for the upcoming academic year.

The PDC Career Showcase on March 5 brought together students and local employers for a powerful day of networking and opportunity.

Featuring organizations actively recruiting for internships, part-time and full-time roles, the event reinforced CSUSB Palm Desert Campus’s commitment to developing regional talent and strengthening the local workforce pipeline.

Coachella Firebirds game

CSUSB Palm Desert Campus students headed across the freeway to the Acrisure Arena on Feb. 13 for an exciting Coachella Valley Firebirds game as part of “PDC Hockey Nights,” hosted by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI).

Before cheering on the Firebirds, students kicked off the night with a pre-game tailgate on campus with food, music and fun giveaways. This is the third year the event has taken place and it's a great night of school spirit, community and hockey. Go Firebirds!

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Fellows Program at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus and the University Honors College hosted its inaugural lecture on Feb. 26 - the Leadership for the Public Good Lecture Series - featuring Jonathan Perman, founder of the American Congressional Exchange.

Perman’s presentation, “Bridging Divide & Building Relationships: Two Legislators at a Time,” examined his work bringing together more than 60 Republican and Democratic members of Congress through cross-district visits intentionally designed to build trust and lasting bipartisan collaboration. His initiative offers a compelling and proven model for institutional trust-building and problem-solving across political divides.

We were honored to welcome Palm Springs Mayor Naomi Soto to campus on Feb. 26 to speak to BASW students in the social welfare policy course.

Mayor Soto joined our students to share her experiences in policy advocacy, community organizing and electoral politics. She spoke about her personal journey into public service and engaged in meaningful dialogue about how social workers can effectively advocate for issues impacting their communities.

The conversation was especially timely as our BASW students are currently in the midst of a semester-long community advocacy project. Throughout the semester, students study a local community, conduct a community needs assessment, develop an action plan to address a specific need, and actively engage in advocacy efforts — including speaking with local elected officials about their findings and proposed solutions.

We are grateful to Mayor Soto for inspiring our students and reinforcing the vital role social workers play in shaping policy and advancing social change.

The “Dedication to the Nursing Profession” White Coat Ceremony held at PDC on March 3 celebrated our newest nursing students who pledged to lead with empathy, evidence-based practice and unwavering integrity.

This ceremony not only honors our students — it strengthens our community. Each future nurse stepping forward represents hope, healing and compassionate care for the Coachella Valley community and beyond.

A special note of thanks to Dr. Sara Kollman from Eisenhower Health for delivering the keynote address.

CSUSB Palm Desert Campus students, staff and faculty proudly took part in the annual Coyote Cares Day on Feb. 28, making a meaningful impact across the Coachella Valley!

Our Coyotes volunteered at several locations, giving their time and energy to support the community:

  • Read With Me – Created sticker books and activity bags to brighten the days of children in local hospitals.
  • Desert Springs Middle School – Helped with an outdoor campus clean-up to support a welcoming learning environment.
  • Whitewater Preserve – Participated in trail clean-up efforts to help preserve our beautiful natural spaces.
  • Palm Springs Black History Month Parade – Provided community parade support to celebrate culture, history and unity.
  • Coyote Nurses of the Desert provided free checkups to our unhoused community in the Coachella Valley.

We are proud of our campus community for showing up, giving back, and demonstrating the true spirit of service. Together, we make a difference!
