Letter from our Director
Rachelle Saldate
As Amador County enters the Yellow Tier, Amador College Connect is excited to announce we are now open to walk-in visitors. Although we are happy to meet with anyone who comes by during our regular hours, we remain dedicated to the health and safety of our community and thus we will continue to ask any visitors to our center to wear face coverings and practice safety guidelines until further notice. We also recommend that individuals call ahead to schedule an appointment in order to optimize staff attention and support as well as to ensure adequate time needed to sanitize student workspaces.

Amador College Connect looks forward to continuing our collaboration with First 5 Amador, Quality for Kids, and Columbia College to offer apprenticeship and and scholarship opportunities for students taking child development classes. We are honored to be part of this initiative to support early childhood educators in Amador County.
As summer semester approaches we invite anyone who is thinking about beginning or continuing their higher education journey to reach out to us. No matter where you are in your journey, we are excited to assist you with achieving your goals whether they be personal, educational, or professional. Summer registration is currently open and now is a great time to start planning for the fall.

Need Assistance with Financial Aid?

Amador College Connect partners with the Motherlode Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) to bring financial aid support to Amador students.

Tira Lawhorn, a Transition Specialist at MEOC, has continued to support students with filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) throughout the pandemic. She utilizes Zoom to guide students step-by-step through the application, ensuring that students are successful in completing the process.

The last day to complete the FAFSA for the 2020-2021 academic year is JUNE 30.

Call Amador College Connect to schedule a FAFSA appointment!
Amador Community College Foundation and staff at Amador College Connect would like to thank Sherry Butler, Vice President, American River Bank (ARB) and ARB’s community relations department for their generous grant award to ACCF.
The grant funding will be used to support Amador Community College Foundation’s mission to provide accessible education opportunities in a supportive environment for career success in Amador County.

Amador College Connect partners with
Amador Adult Education

In March 2020, Amador Community College Foundation welcomed Kelly Hunkins, principal of North Star Independent High School and Amador Adult Education, onto the Board of Directors. Since joining the board, Kelly has been dedicated to strengthening the relationship between Amador College Connect and Amador County Unified School District. In July of 2020, Amador Community College Foundation officially partnered with Amador County Unified School District to ensure that any student in Amador County who wishes to pursue a college education has the support to do so. Whether an individual is a high school student, adult education student, first time college student, or returning college student, this partnership has strengthened the support network for any student in Amador County wishing to take college classes.

One great benefit of this partnership is that Amador College Connect was able to hire a Transition Specialist, who is responsible for ensuring that students experience a smooth transition from high school or adult education to college. The transition specialist works with Amador Adult Education and the ACUSD high school counselors to meet the needs of each student as their educational goals transition from a high school diploma or equivalent to a college degree.
Student Feature
Jennifer Autote
Jennifer Autote is currently a full-time student at Coastline Community College working towards her Associate of Science in Health Care Management. Pursuing a college education was something that Jennifer always wanted to do, but with other things going on in her life, it just never seemed like the right time. However, ever since she decided to go for it in 2018, she has been unstoppable. Although she faced a challenge going to school full time while taking care of her family, Jennifer has earned both her Medical Administrative Office Technician Certificate and Medical Coding Specialist Certificate, has continuously made the Honor Roll, and is now on track to complete her degree at the end of Fall semester 2021.

Amador College Connect is honored to be a part of Jennifer’s educational journey. Amador College Connect was able to assist Jennifer in overcoming some of the barriers that had been preventing her from enrolling in college classes, such as navigating the financial aid process and selecting the college with the best program to suit her career goals. With the completion of her degree coming up, Jennifer is looking forward to some well-deserved rest from the demands of a full-time college schedule. She then plans to study for the state certification exam to become a Certified Medical Coder.

Best of luck, Jennifer, and congratulations on accomplishing your educational goals!
Amador Community College Foundation would like to thank the
Upcountry Rotary Club
for their generous donation, which was presented to ACC Executive Director Rachelle Saldate on Thursday, May 6.
Thank you, Upcountry Rotary, for you continuous support of our organization and community!

Board Member Highlight
Craig Burman
Amador Community College Foundation has been extremely fortunate to have Craig Burman serving as Board Treasurer for the past 5 years. Born and raised in Turlock, Craig brings with him a lifetime of experience in business marketing and finance. While building a successful career as a regional sales manager, Craig moved with his family to Pine Grove in 1996. Craig became involved with ACCF after meeting founders Karen and Wyman Dickerson at a Pine Grove Civic Improvement Club event in 2016. He made a donation to the foundation in honor of his late wife, Janelle, who had pursued her college education later in life, allowing her to achieve career mobility at the Jackson Rancheria. Karen Dickerson suggested that he join the Board of Directors, and he has been an integral member of the board ever since.

Craig is enthusiastic about helping our community to understand the doors that a college education can open for someone looking to move up in their career or thinking of making a career change. He believes that Amador College Connect help bring those opportunities to residents of Amador County, which does not have a local college or university for students to conveniently attend. With the help of Amador College Connect, rural students can overcome barriers to accessing and succeeding in higher education, such as finding the right program, the enrollment process, and navigating financial aid applications. Craig hopes to see Amador College Connect continue to grow its student base, and possibly expand to other areas of Amador County and rural areas as needed.

Thank you, Craig, for your continued dedication and hard work as our Treasurer!
