SC Youth Apprenticeship Readiness Grant. Awarded to only 14 organizations nationwide; it is USDOL's first youth apprenticeship grant in over 20 years. Apprenticeship Carolina™ received $4.49M over four years. The grant will support 800 new youth apprentices and 230 youth pre-apprentices. The focus will be on high-growth industries in South Carolina such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, construction, transportation and information technology.
SC Apprenticeship Expansion Grant. Awarded for the expansion of both adult and youth apprenticeship across the state over the next three years. Apprenticeship Carolina was awarded $6.99M and will use the funds to grow the number of apprentices by 25%. $3M is available in scholarships for apprentices and $375,00 for pre-apprentices. There is also an additional $360,000 available for supportive services for apprentices who demonstrate financial need.

Expanding Apprenticeship Opportunities to Minorities
The SC Technical College System and the three Urban League Chapters in South Carolina signed a Memorandum of Understanding in December designed to increase apprenticeship opportunities for minority residents across the state. This distinctive partnership earned Apprenticeship Carolina kudos on a national stage from Suzi LeVine, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Employment and Training Administration at US Department of Labor.
SRNS Grows Apprenticeship Program to Include More Careers
South Carolinians are taking charge of their future careers through the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) Registered Apprenticeship Program at the Savannah River Site. With assistance from Apprenticeship Carolina, SRNS recently added seven paid apprentice profiles: Facility/Production Operators, Software Engineers, Records Management Clerks, Process Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, Computer Systems Support and Maintenance Mechanics.
South Carolina's First Certified Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Richland One School District and Apprenticeship Carolina announced in February that the district had certified the state's first pre-apprenticeship program. This pre-apprenticeship program prepares students to enter and succeed in a registered apprenticeship program. Local area employers with existing registered apprenticeship programs recognize the value in Richland One's pre-apprenticeship initiative. They have committed to tapping into this candidate pool of talented and skilled students for recruiting. Richland One currently has 21 pre-apprenticeship students and anticipates this number growing over the next several months.
Biden Administration Takes Steps to Bolster Registered Apprenticeships
President Joe Biden is reaffirming his commitment to expanding registered apprenticeships with several actions including reinstating the National Advisory Committee on Apprenticeships.
