AutonomouStuff Director of Product Engineering Joe Buckner joined a panel of private sector and public policy experts at the
UIC Urban Forum
in Chicago to discuss the myths and realities of autonomous vehicle deployment.
With investment in automation flowing into closed systems such as mining and freight operations,
advancements will naturally follow
in open systems such as those encompassing autonomous vehicles on public roads, Joe explained. Driving all of it are tech developments that allow vehicles and infrastructure to be
connected and collaborative in unprecedented ways
, with safety and efficiency as prime areas where gains will be phenomenal.
Joe and other panelists additionally tackled one other topic at the urging of moderator Jerry Quandt of the Illinois Autonomous Vehicles Association: What will happen to all the people whose livelihood depends on driving in an age of mature autonomy?
