NEW THIS FALL!!

ABA-Informed Executive Function Coaching

Middle and High School Students

Two Sessions a Week, One Unified Plan

Our ABA-Informed EF Coaching program pairs the practical, goal-driven approach of Executive Function (EF) coaching with the individualized, evidence-based strategies of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This dual-session model ensures that the skills your child works on aren't just discussed once a week—they're reinforced, practiced, and generalized through a coordinated, ABA-informed follow-up.

How It Works

Each week includes two 50-minute sessions:

  • Session 1: Executive Function Coaching (50 minutes) Your coach works directly on core EF skills — planning, organization, time management, task initiation, self-monitoring, and emotional regulation — using strategies tailored to the individual's goals and challenges.
  • Session 2: ABA Therapy Follow-Up (50 minutes) Building directly on that week's coaching topic, this session applies ABA principles (such as prompting, reinforcement, task analysis, and data-based progress tracking) to reinforce the specific EF skill introduced in the coaching session — helping ensure the strategy actually sticks in daily life.

This coordinated approach means both sessions speak to the same goal each week, rather than functioning as two separate, disconnected services.

Who This Is For

This program is designed for individuals who benefit from both:

  • Structured, coaching-style support for executive function skills, and
  • The behavioral reinforcement and skill-generalization strategies that ABA therapy provides

It's especially well-suited for students and clients with ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, or other learning differences that affect planning, organization, and follow-through.

Why This Model Works

Executive function skills don't build from insight alone — they build from repetition, reinforcement, and real-world application. By following each coaching session with a targeted ABA session on the same topic, clients get:

  • Consistency between what's taught and what's reinforced
  • Faster generalization of skills into daily routines
  • Data-informed adjustments to keep strategies effective week to week
  • A coordinated plan working from the same weekly goal

Three Back-to-School Tips to Implement Today!

While we like to call them strategies, many people now call them techniques to streamline day-to-day "life hacks." As coaches, we always appreciate a positive reframe! This time of year, we're often asked about our favorite back-to-school tips to promote success. Here are four that we love:

  1. Have a "Landing Pad" to promote a space reset every day. Have a designated spot (a bin, a shelf, a hook by the door) where the backpack, binders, and any papers get dumped every single day, no exceptions. While this keeps materials contained in one spot, it also eliminates the heavy decision-making process of determining "Where do I even start looking for something?" Most kids lose executive function fuel on searching, not on the actual task.

  2. Pre-decide the "first physical action" to get started. Instead of "start your math homework," the instruction is "open your math folder and put it flat on the desk." Initiation can be one of the hardest EF skills for students of all ages. Give a physical, almost humorously small first move, and continue! This sort of prompt is also a great first step on an initiation routine.

  3. Do a "friction audit" in addition to weekly planning. Spend 5 minutes on Sunday evening asking: "What's going to be annoying or hard to find on Tuesday?" Then work to fix or plan for those friction points. Do I need to wash gym clothes on Monday? Do I need to wake up earlier one day? Will I need a ride to school to bring a large project?

  4. Lastly, have a homework caddy! Regardless of whether your K12 child has a dedicated space to complete their HW, works at any available table, or even finishes assignments on the go, pick up a shower caddy to stock with all the materials they'll need to do their work. Pens, pencils, calculator, ruler, paper, highlighters, etc. Having to find something mid-assignment instantly halts their momentum.

Intensive Support for College Freshman Year

Specifically designed for incoming college freshmen, our College Intensive program is a semester-long program for students who benefit from daily communication and accountability. Our coaches provide daily meetings or check-ins for students with executive functioning challenges so that nothing falls through the cracks. Your child also has a direct line of communication with a skilled coach who can help them problem-solve as challenges arise. Check out our coaching page for more information!

What We're Reading

With most of our focus and attention on school supplies and executive functioning tools, there's another important "to-do list" looming for high school juniors with ADHD exploring college options. This article by Renee Minnich provides groundwork for thinking about college applications and decisions. Even if your child with ADHD isn't a junior yet, it's worth reading for a head start!

The Best Back-to-School Supplies for Kids (and Adults!) Who Need a Little Extra Help Staying Organized

Let's be honest: back-to-school shopping usually means a list of pencils, folders, and the same three-ring binder you've bought every year since forever. But if you or your student struggles with things like remembering homework, keeping track of time, staying organized, or transitioning between tasks, there's a whole world of supplies out there designed to make daily life easier—not just cuter.
