Lent at St. John's and St. Paul's

Some suggested do’s and don’ts for Lent

  • Fast from complaining
  • Pray for someone whom you struggle to love
  • Put your phone away for an hour a day and be fully present
  • Try a new form of prayer
  • Pick a day and pray for a different friend or family member every hour
  • Write down 5 things for which you are grateful and thank God
  • Fast from negativity
  • Skip unnecessary social media scrolling
  • Give up junk food or caffeine for a day
  • Fast from music or noise for an hour and sit in silence with God
  • Send a kind message to someone who may need encouragement
  • Forgive someone who hurt you – let go of the burden
  • Surprise someone with an act of kindness
  • Pray for those suffering around the world

Give to others: Donate clothes and household items to the Thrift Shop; consider placing an item each day into a donation bag – 40 items in 40 days, give canned goods or money to Good Neighbors; buy a meal or a coffee for someone that you don't know. Think of other things that you can do for someone else.

St. John's Wants and Needs

  • The Thrift Shop is in need of volunteers both at the front desk and in the back room
  • The Thrift Shop also needs kitchen and household items and knick-knacks
