All are invited to join us in an opportunity to have a blessing of our pets. St. John's Episcopal Church, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Resurrection Episcopal Church and Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, will be gathering on the lawn at St. John's to conduct a blessing of the animals. Bring your pets for a blessing. Everyone is invited! Tell your friends and family to bring their furry, fluffy, smooth, scaley or feathered friends for a special blessing.
Cider and donuts will be offered in the parish hall. A donation drop-off basket will be available to collect donated items for the SPCA animal shelter in Largo.
SPCA Requested items: Fleece blankets/throws, towels & washcloths, bathroom rugs, animal beds, dog and cat food and treats, newspaper, pet toys, latex gloves, paper towels, pillow cases, flat sheets. Bring the items to church on Sunday or to the Blessing on Oct. 5.

Why do we bless our pets on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi?
During his life St. Francis developed a deep love of nature and animals and is known as the patron saint of the environment and animals. His life and words have had a lasting resonance with millions of followers across the globe. Each October, many animals the world over are blessed on or near his feast day, October 4. A hymn that is often sung on that day, "Make me a channel of your peace," is based on a prayer written by Francis.

Thanksgiving Dinner Bags for Belcher Elementary
Thank you to everyone who picked up a grocery bag and a list of items to purchase for families of children at Belcher School. There were 30 bags available on Sunday, and only two are left. Caroline Barnett will have them at church on Sunday. If you weren't able to attend last Sunday and want a bag, contact Caroline, and she will reserve it for you.
St. Paul's Lutheran will be providing 20 bags as well, so together we will provide Thanksgiving Dinner for 50 families.
Bags are due back at church by Nov. 17 when they will be blessed and then delivered to the school.
Requested for the bags: 2 cans green beans, 2 cans corn, 2 cans yams, 1 can cranberry sauce, 1 can/jar turkey gravy, 1 lg box turkey stuffing, 1 lg box instant mashed potatoes, 1 box biscuit or roll mix, 1 brownie mix. A $25 gift card to Walmart will be included in each bag for the purchase of a turkey or other needed food items.

Coffee Hour Cottage Meeting - October 20
Parish Hall - Immediately following the 9 a.m. service
Please join us in the parish hall on Sunday, October 20. Share your stories about St. John's. How did you get here? What are your hopes and dreams for St. John's? What is the most important quality that you think a new priest should have?
We value your opinions. In this interim period, it is vital to get your input for the future of St. John's and for calling a permanent priest.

Good Neighbors expands
If you glance toward the rear of the property, you will notice that Good Neighbors has added long awaited walk-in coolers. They were able to purchase them through a grant from the Church of the Latter Day Saints. A local pastor heard Heather speak at our Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. He was so impressed that he matched her up with the grant division of their church.
Good Neighbors is out of space, and these additions will offer much needed relief. One of the units will be for cold food; the other for frozen foods. Good Neighbors is always in need of volunteers. See article below for needed services.
