Thank you for  Supporting TLC!

Thankful for a Beautiful Day for TLC's 5k!
Sunny and warm is not always what you can expect for a mid-November 5k.  We were very lucky!  Thank you to the 350 participants and volunteers who helped raise over $20,000 to support individuals with special needs! Winners, race day results and photos are all on the website.
Thankful For Friends Who Help Our Kids Play
When TLC Board member Joe Parlanti mentioned he had a playhouse for KTS, we never imagined this! Joe became involved with a Rebuilding Together Montgomery County contest called, Rebuilding Hope: The RTMC Playhouse Project , where area architects and builders competed to design and create incredible playhouses which were then auctioned off to raise money for various charities. KTS is the beneficiary of the winning playhouse!  We held a reception to show our volunteers how much students  enjoy the playhouse!

David Mensh of Davis Construction and Edward Mullaney and Wit Huffman of JGB Companies were the driving force behind this project. This was an enormous coordinated effort that took many volunteers to create the foundation, modify the structure for the move, and of course, transport this beautiful playhouse to KTS. And the students love it!  Thanks to TLC staff for their efforts. And a huge thank you to all of the volunteers: Dan Strotman, Russell Wheeler and Michael Ollinger - Orr Partners; Sam Stiebel, Whitson Huffman, Edward Mullaney - The JBG Companies; David Mensh, Mike Sendek, Jack Nill - James G. Davis Construction Corporation; Jonathan Tolbert and Ashton Allan - STUDIOS Architecture; Daniel A. Kunkel and Doug Wood - Capitol Components & Millwork; Mike Cochran, Cochran & Mann, Inc.; Chris M. Pappas and Glenn Feldstein - Telligent Masonry

Artist In Residence at The Katherine Thomas School
This is an exciting week at The Katherine Thomas School. With a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, KTS is able to have a Poet in Residence for the week. Chris August is a Slam Poet, who also is a former special educator. He is working directly with three periods of classes. All KTS students will participate in poetry writing activities in their English classes and have an opportunity to perform their poems for each other on Friday afternoon.
