Downtown tree replacement starts 12/12

Starting Tuesday, Dec. 12, the City of Venice will begin replacement of the downtown trees lost in Hurricane Ian. The first phase of the project will replace trees in the center median of W. Venice Ave., from Harbor Dr. to U.S. 41 Business. Periodic lane closures will be necessary from Dec. 12-19 to complete tree replacement safely. See map above.

The second phase in January will replace the trees in the sidewalk planters on W. Venice Ave. and W. Miami Ave. Temporary parking spaces and sidewalk closures will be required for this work.

Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution during tree replacement and be alert for changing traffic patterns. For questions, please contact City Engineer Kathleen Weeden at kweeden@venicefl.gov or 941-441-7285 or City Arborist Jim Yelverton at jyelverton@venicefl.gov. 



Utility work on Nokomis Ave. 12/18-22

Starting Monday, Dec. 18, through Friday, Dec. 22, the Venice Utilities Department will have contractors working in the area of Nokomis Avenue. The reason for this work is to repair and make improvements to the gravity sewer system. 

The roads should remain open to the public. Flaggers will be utilized when necessary; motorists should exercise caution when driving in the area.

Caroling at the Carillon

December 21 at 7pm

A traditional favorite event will return this year featuring our own City Carillonneur Wylie Crawford and members of the Venice Chorale who will lead Caroling at the Carillon on Thursday, December 21 at 7pm. With the generous support of the Venice Performing Arts Center, we expect to offer refreshments and lyrics for the carols projected on a large screen. Carols will include The Little Drummer Boy, Deck the Hallls, and Joy to the World among a dozen others.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is brought to life in the person of actress, Sheryl Faye. Ginsburg was a lawyer, professor of law and a judge who went on to serve as a U.S. Supreme Court associate justice for 27 years. She championed fairness and equality and was a leading voice for gender equality, women's interests and civil liberty rights. 

6 p.m. - Reception with Champagne and Appetizers, Champagne generously sponsored by Lueanne Wood, PA. 

7 p.m. - Performance

Tickets are $40.00 with a limitation of 150 attendees.
