Downtown Holiday Parade application

deadline is 11/1

The City of Venice has an online application for organizations, clubs and businesses interested in participating in the 2023 Venice Holiday Parade downtown.

To apply, click this link: https://arcg.is/05q0HO or visit the Venice Holiday Parade webpage at venicegov.com. All applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. November 1, 2023.

About the parade & application process

The parade, set for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, is now in its 47th year and welcomes thousands of spectators. For complete parade details, including early chair setup, pre-parade events, parade route, road closures, live streaming information and safety reminders, visit the Venice Holiday Parade webpage.

Longtime Venice residents Bob and Sue Hebert remain as the parade organizers and serve as the main contact for parade applicants. An automatic email will be sent to those submitting an application, confirming your application has been received and is under review. The email will include all the applicant’s submitted unit and contact information.

Once applications have been reviewed by the parade committee, applicants will receive additional emails, letting them know if their entry was approved or denied, and next steps. Your application does not guarantee your spot in the parade.

The City will host a mandatory holiday parade safety meeting for all approved entrants. All parade entrants will be required to attend either in person or virtually. The meeting is tentatively set for the week prior to the parade. Approved applicants will receive details at a later date.

Anyone experiencing technical issues or needing assistance with the online application should contact City Special Events and Marketing Coordinator Brianne Lorenz at 941-882-7439.

All applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. November 1, 2023.

Once again The Cottage Gang will serve up free coffee, bottled water and cookies and donuts until they're gone. Come on out and find your favorite artists and crafters while listening to wonderful Joey Orchulli play his guitar and sing some tunes old and new.

This is the perfect event to shop for yourself for your home and garden, to buy gifts for family and friends for the upcoming Holiday Season, to treat yourself to great jewelry, soaps and candles and pottery. As always, The Cottage Gallery will be open for business, as will RumRunners Antiques and the Hot Chics Hot Glass studio.

We're All in This Together

Join us every evening from 6:45pm to 7:30pm (10/16-10/21) as we unite in communal prayer, supporting and strengthening each other in these trying times.

Over Shabbat, we reflected on the diverse roles within an Army, each one crucial, from air pilots and tank commanders to medics and those in food distribution. Every individual in the army embraces their responsibility, contributing uniquely to the collective effort.

In response to the horrific terror attack last week, every IDF reservist has been summoned to their significant posts, demonstrating admirable dedication whether in Israel or overseas. Each man and woman has responded with unwavering bravery and commitment.

Here in Venice, Florida, our role is distinct yet profoundly impactful. We are entrusted with bolstering our troops through our unwavering prayers, a wave of positivity, and essential financial aid. Our resolve must be steadfast; we cannot yield, understanding the magnitude of our spiritual contribution.

We are initiating a heartfelt program, aiming to transcend distances and send our fortified unity and prayerful support across the seas to our brave soldiers. Join us daily, from 6:45 to 7:30 PM, as we create a sanctuary of communal prayers and Mitzvot, nurturing and reinforcing our collective spirit. Together, we will cultivate an atmosphere charged with faith, each evening enriched by video presentations to elevate our spirits.

These presentations will illuminate the remarkable endurance and resilience of our brothers and sisters in Israel. Their stories will ignite our spirits, intensify our prayers, and reaffirm our unwavering faith and trust in Hashem, empowering us to contribute effectively to Israel’s triumph in these challenging times.

Volunteers sought for Venice

Make a Difference Day 10/28

The 10th annual Make a Difference Day, a day of community service for volunteers of all ages, will be held in the City of Venice on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Landscaping, raking, cleaning and litter collection events are planned at over 25 City parks and public spaces.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers of all ages turn out for this citywide community service effort, saving the City thousands of dollars and benefiting our local environment. At the last MADD in January (postponed from October 2022 due to Hurricane Ian), 422 volunteers participated.

Jim Foubister is the chief organizer of the event, with assistance from City Public Works staff. Volunteers are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch following the event at 11 a.m. Oct. 28 at Maxine Barritt Park, 1800 Harbor Dr. S.

Groups and teams can register with Jim by calling 941-223-1771 or emailing [email protected]. Individuals can register online at www.togetherwecan.life.

Email shirt sizes for your group (S-XXL) by today, Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, to [email protected]. Your captain can pick up shirts and park assignments between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at the Community Room at Venice Fire Station 1, 112 Harbor Dr. (near City Hall).

Interested volunteers can also just come to the Venice Community Center, 326 Nokomis Ave. S., at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 28 to help. All volunteers should drive to the south side of the building near Turin St. to receive their assignments and a T-shirt. This will be a drive-thru; you do not have to get out of your vehicle.

MADD volunteers should wear old, comfortable clothing and work shoes, and bring sunscreen. Other supplies, including drinking water and gloves, will be furnished.

Thank you in advance for your help!

You can help provide more than 13,000 turkeys to local children, families, seniors and veterans in need.

Thanksgiving is a special time to give thanks for all that we have, and to celebrate with a warm, delicious meal. But with the increasing cost of food, housing and other necessities, many families can’t afford the simple joy of a holiday meal – or any food at all. Thanksgiving can be a painful reminder of hunger.

The ThankFULL campaign was created with the idea of turning empty plates into ThankFULL hearts and tummies by providing meals for our neighbors who are facing hunger during the holiday season.

You can offer hope in the form of nourishing food. Join the ThankFULL Tummies campaign today!

Finish 2023 Strong

Project ME 2023 last quarter!

I have been a personal trainer and coach for over fifteen years, and I know why you aren’t getting the results you are working so hard to achieve.

If you are a busy woman over 50 (and who of us aren’t?) and still starving yourself, eliminating entire food groups, spending endless hours doing cardio, and trying all the gimmicky supplements, I have a program for you.

Let's stop doing the cha-cha. You know what I mean. Two steps forward, one step back. One step forward, two steps back. Let's end this dance and waltz into 2024 with some healthier, easy to maintain habits that will change the trajectory of your future. It’s about time you get on a lifelong path of serving your body well, so that in your eighties, you can still do the things you do today.  You don’t need a special meal plan, but you do need to learn which foods work best for you and when to eat them. Learn how and when to work out for your body and the stage of life you are in: peri-menopause, menopause, or post-menopause.

Quick fixes don't work for the long haul. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Together we can build a better body, and a better life for you, I just ask that you keep an open mind and make the decision, once and for all, to commit to yourself and your health. I will be there with you to figure out the rest. You can be feeling better, moving better, looking better and living better by the end of this year, I am confident of that.

Let’s GO! Join me as we close out 2023 Strong. This program will be offered as a 1:1 (just me and you) or as a hybrid group program with some virtual and some live components.
