Phase 1 Reopening Update
from Venice, Florida Municipal Government

The City of Venice supports Gov. Ron DeSantis’ plan for most of Florida to enter the first phase of a three-phase reopening on Monday, May 4 , as the state continues to work to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Here is what will change in Florida on May 4, 2020:

  • Restaurants can have outdoor seating with 6 feet between tables and indoor seating at 25% capacity.

  • Retail stores can operate at 25% of indoor capacity.

  • Elective surgeries can resume.

Here is what will remain the same:

  • Vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, should avoid close contact with people outside the home.

  • People should continue to avoid groups of 10 or more, practice social distancing, and use face masks in public when they can’t maintain 6 feet from others.

  • Bars and gyms will remain closed, along with personal services such as hair and nail salons.

  • Schools will continue distance learning.

  • Visits to senior living facilities are prohibited.

  • Movie theaters will remain closed.

Read the new  Executive Order 20-112  and a  FAQ sheet on the phase 1 plan . Pha ses two and three will begin following assessment of the first phase. Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties will not open on May 4, due to a higher incidence of COVID-19 infections in these areas.

UPDATE: Beach Access - Parking will be available at county-owned beaches starting Monday, May 4. With other coastal communities reopening their beaches, there's less of a concern of an influx of out-of-county beachgoers.

Chairs, coolers and canopies will also now be allowed, but we are asking all beachgoers to maintain social distancing and keep groups to 10 or less. Concessions, playgrounds, amenities and picnic shelters will remain closed. These areas will be opened as part of Phase 3 of beach reopening. Restrooms are open. Our continued focus is on the safety of our employees and citizens.

The county also plans to open pickleball and tennis courts on Saturday, May 2. For a list of open courts, visit .

The county is researching and looking at opportunities to open some additional amenities including but not limited to playgrounds, dog parks, basketball and volleyball courts. For more information visit: .

This American Legion Memorial wall in Centennial Park was barely noticeable before. A City Parks crew, under the direction of Scott Marra, Crew Leader, and assisted by Neil Heuring, Irrigation Specialist, made this beautiful landscape renovation happen with patriotic red and white flowers, red flowering trees, new sod and shrubs.
