MELLODY HOBSON ON DIVERSITY AT FORTUNE CONFERENCE
On Tuesday, September 25, Mellody Hobson, President, Ariel Investments, spoke at Fortune's Brainstorm Reinvent conference in Chicago on the need for action on corporate diversity. She challenged attendees to create real
business consequences for companies and divisions that fail to make progress on diversity  "People lose their jobs over failing to hit earnings targets or missing production deadlines," Mellody Hobson said. FRANCESCA DEBIASE ON MCDONALD'S COMMITMENT TO CLIMATE ACTION
Francesca DeBiase, EVP, Chief Supply Chain and Sustainability Officer at McDonald's, recently spoke at the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco. Leading up to and during the event, Francesca spoke about how McDonald's is using its Scale for Good through a commitment to climate action. See below for media highlights:

ROBIN KELLY INSPIRES BLOOM TRAIL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Robin Kelly, U.S. Rep., visited Bloom Trail High School students and encouraged them to become involved in government at the local level. She dropped off 100 books for the school's library. Robin spoke with a small group of student's in the library of the Chicago Heights school, where they asked her about her education, why she decided to run for office and her thoughts on the president. 

The books were from the Library of Congress' surplus books program, where members of Congress are able to distribute excess books in their districts. She has, during her tenure, distributed about 3,000 books, according to a spokesman. "Keep developing and keep your opportunities open. Be open to the possibilities," she told students. Read more...

On Thursday, September 27, The Chicago Bar Foundation's 19th Annual Justice John Paul Stevens Award Luncheon celebrated Illinois attorneys who have demonstrated extraordinary integrity and service to the community throughout their careers. JULIA STASCH TO STEP DOWN AS MACARTHUR PRESIDENT NEXT YEAR
Julia Stasch, President, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, announced that she will step down in 2019.

"During this exceptional time, when hope and optimism persist, even as the challenges facing our city, our nation, and the world can seem so daunting and the divisions so deep, it is an honor to lead an institution committed to making the world a better and more just place for all. GRACE HOU NAMED A "NOTABLE NATIVE" BY COLUMBIA CHRONICLE
Grace Hou, President, Woods Fund Chicago, was named a "Notable Native" in a recent Columbia Chronicles interview. The Chronicle spoke with Hou on her work with Woods Fund Chicago, the organization's impact and her career. 

Grace offers encouragement to those attempting to make a difference in their community. "It is important to remember that every change does not happen in the same way and in the same time frame. LAURA SCHUMACHER ANNOUNCES ABBVIE DONATION TO AID FAMILIES AFFECTED BY CANCER
AbbVie announced a donation of $5 million to Family Reach to support the organization's efforts to alleviate the financial burden of cancer on pediatric patients and families across the United States.  Laura Schumacher ,   EVP, External Affairs, General Counsel , AbbVie, comments on involvement with the nonprofit:  "Family Reach's solution-based model helps so many families at critical junctures in their lives so that they can focus on what truly matters: the health and needs of their child. CHICAGO INNOVATION WOMEN MENTORING CO-OP SEEKS MENTORS
Chicago Innovation Women Mentoring Co-op seeks Chicago Network members  for cohort 6 of the Co-op! This cohort would run from January - June 2019 and have a time commitment of 8-10 hours over the 6 months. PLUS, because Chicago Innovation is always looking to create more community for mentors, they will be hosting more Co-op events and creating mentor-only events!
