Last Week
Well, we wouldn't be surprised if everyone is going out and buying an LED LWUV penlight after so many of you read our feature story on testing diamonds. Stone Group Lab's study on why this fluorescence only shows with natural diamonds is what desk gemologists crave! If you missed it, you can read it here.

This week, we feature a story on ET Peridot (aka Palladot - Pallasitic Peridot/Olivine from outer space.) Many of us have written about the material, including the Roskin Gem News original newsletter, Gemworld International, as well as GIA, of course. But our feature is from Rick Stinson, professional gem cutter, who offers us a behind the scenes look at what it's like to cut one of these extraterrestrials.
We've also written up a short review of Informamarket's September Singapore Gem & Jewelry Show. What should have been, what could have been, was blind-sided by bad timing.

Peridot From A Pallasite Meteorite
Pallasites are considered by many collectors and connoisseurs to be the most beautiful of all meteorites. The meteorite hunters generally have them thin sliced to show the peridot crystals with back lighting. Due to rarity and high prices, some hunters have however, taken the chance and recovered some stones. They are often sent overseas to be cut. The result can be “native cutting” that is, low quality, badly fractured gems with poor “fish-eyed” optics. As with so many new species, there can be misleading information, lack of gem knowledge and flakey guarantees. Compare guarantees, experience, quality and provenance.

Will Hong Kong ever recover from past Covid restrictions and political turmoil? Businesses have flocked elsewhere.
“All roads lead to JGW Singapore in 2022” was the headline.
But too many roads led to Singapore this year, 2022. And it could, as they said in the beginning, be just a one-time gem & jewelry show.
So the hype for Singapore started with the Informamarkets Hong Kong September show having taken exhibitors’ deposits for 2020. Which of course was postponed due to Covid. 2021 was only a local show, so international exhibitors could not participate.
Informamarkets was still holding onto their deposits, now for over 12 months. What to do with this money?
Let’s have an international show in Singapore.
Singapore had such great potential – it was outside of China with its strict mandatory Covid quarantine regulations, easy to get to, plenty of hotels and restaurants, but the results did not go as planned.
