The winter holiday season has brought a unique problem to the City of Helena Open Lands. In recent years, the City has experienced an increase in littering as a result of people decorating trees in the South Hills. While City staff appreciate the holiday spirit, the practice presents significant issues.
The City is asking the public to be responsible if there is a desire to decorate a tree on Open Lands:
Decorate a tree, enjoy it, take few photos, and then take all the decorations home with you when you are done.
Use biodegradable decorations such as popcorn, cranberries, dried oranges, gingerbread or cookie cut-outs, spice bundle, or pinecones
Don’t decorate a tree – our trees are gorgeously green, healthy and festive just as they are!
