The Town of Palm Beach Shores has explored the requirements to establish a closed Point of Dispensing (POD) for the COVID-19 vaccination. These closed PODs are acquired through an application process to the State. Having a POD enables local jurisdictions to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to their respective communities within the parameters of the Governor’s Order. Once established, PODs are maintained for future need. The Town of Palm Beach had a POD established since 2009 during the H1N1 virus outbreak, enabling them to rapidly transition to re-activating their closed POD to provide COVID-19 vaccinations within their community. Palm Beach Shores initiated the application process through the Fire Department’s Medical Director. We are awaiting approval confirmation and an issuance of our PIN number from the State in order to receive the vaccines when they are available. Ancillary supplies, equipment and logistical needs are being addressed so that our closed POD can operate as soon as approval from the State is received. We are optimistic that this approval will occur but cannot determine a specific “start date” until we are notified that we are authorized to operate our POD. We will communicate the progress and process to our community as this initiative evolves. Nevertheless, do not delay in registering for an appointment through the Florida Department of Health – PBC by emailing your name, phone number, date of birth and address with zip code to chd50feedback@flhealth.gov.
