SAVE THE DATE:
THURSDAY 2ND DECEMBER
Join Dr Izzy Jayasinghe as she outlines the disparities that have been revealed by recent data on research funding, workplace inclusion surveys as well as the blind spots that continue to exist.
She’ll be highlighting how these disparities translate to the vastly contrasting experiences of researchers in the UK’s STEM sector and discuss the emerging areas of inequality that need urgent attention.

RACING THROUGH THE LOTTIE TOUR
What another amazing and packed month November has been. We kicked off with our 6th annual Lottie Tour that took place during Tomorrows Engineering Week. Lottie as always spent a week discovering the diverse and fascinating world of engineering.
From mic testing at Dyson, almost being blown away by their Supersonic hairdryer, in the wild at St.PetersBurg College Bay Pines STEM Center, to then taking to the skies of Skegness and back down. Lottie raced her way through McLaren, looking at everything from engine design to programming on an Arduino, to meeting F1 racers Daniel Ricciardo & Landon Norris.
She also got to see all the great work Emel Cankaya has been doing as our STEM Ambassador Emel has been helping to coordinate our network of 40 STEM Ambassadors at McLaren Racing. Lottie then sped over to Glasgow for COP26.
Check out all the places that Lottie visited this year
We’d like to once again thank our sponsors this year GKN Automotive and McLaren Racing.

WHY WE MUST CELEBRATE OUR ENGINEERING HEROES
Much has been made of the challenge that faces us in achieving gender equality across the engineering workforce.
Role models play an invaluable role in helping inspire the next generation.
As reported in June 2021 by Engineering UK, women make up 14.5% of all engineers. This represents a 25.7% increase in women in engineering occupations (compared to a 4.6% in the overall workforce) since 2016.
In addition, the number of women working in engineering occupations has risen from 721,586 in Q2 of 2016 to 906,785 in Q3 of 2020.
This is showing positive progress in the sector, but how to we keep this growth trajectory going?

TOMORROW'S ENGINEERS WEEK
Opinion piece from Dr Hilary Leevers, Chief Executive of Engineering UK
Climate Change – Harnessing the promise of future engineers
The Industrial Revolution was enabled by some of the greatest feats of engineering innovation. The introduction of new machinery, methods of production, and power sources led to large-scale productivity and a rocketing standard of living.
Industrialisation brought transformative benefits that have enabled us to get the life that we know today, but at great cost to the planet and, unless we act fast, the future generations that will inhabit it.
