WE50 NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN!
We are delighted to announce the nominations for WE50 2022 are now open!
Founded by the Women's Engineering Society in 2016, the WE50 awards are a UK event linked to International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) – the celebration of women in engineering that takes place on 23 June each year.
In association with The Guardian newspaper the 2022 Top 50 Women in Engineering Awards celebrate the Inventors and Innovators who can #ImagineTheFuture,
the amazing women in engineering, who identify an unmet need, then create the solution, or improve on existing products and processes to make our lives easier.
Nominations had officially opened on the 11 February 2022, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, to those women engineers who have created or improved a product or process, particularly if this supports sustainability and/or combats climate change, and supported other women to do the same.

TIME CAPSULE - ARTICLE BY SALLY SUDWORTH
Rachel was to be the focus of the talk so that the team at Tideway could understand the person behind the name plate on the tunnel machine i.e. who she was and what she did back in 1919.
In researching for this talk I discovered that Rachel was a fascinating individual who was part of high society, owned several racehorses but more importantly was a pioneering engineer. Her father Charles Parsons was the inventor of the steam turbine engine which transformed transatlantic sea crossings.
This was a major milestone in international travel. It was Rachel who managed their engineering business when her brother went away to fight in the first world war.

WE CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY!
On March 8th we will be celebrating International Women's day and supporting #BreakTheBias
Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field.
Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
We can break the bias in our communities.
We can break the bias in our workplaces.
We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities.
Together, we can all break the bias - on International Women's Day (IWD) and beyond.
Keep an eye out for our social posts and updates!

FREE ONLINE: WOMEN IN STEM WIKITHON
Want to find out how to change the Internet so everyone can discover women in science, engineering and technology?
This online workshop will show you how to edit and create content on Wikipedia to help tell the hidden stories of women in STEM.
You don’t need any previous experience and you don’t need to be an expert. We’ll demonstrate how to add forgotten women to the database and improve Wikipedia content by adding more information and links. And we’ll show you how to create new pages when you’re ready to do so.
This workshop is aimed at beginners, but everyone is welcome to attend and get involved.
If you’ve spotted an article that needs improvement or have a subject in mind, please let us know.
This is an Imperial College event, in collaboration with the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Women's Engineering Society, and Archives for London.

RAEng INCLUSIVE CULTURES RESEARCH
As part of our continued commitment to improving and informing approaches to diversity and inclusion in the engineering sector the Royal Academy of Engineering have commissioned DJS Research, an independent market research agency, to undertake an in-depth quantitative and qualitative research study into the current culture of inclusivity in the engineering profession. This study will build upon and bring up-to-date the review we conducted and report published in 2017.
They are reaching out to engineers and those working on engineering projects across all industries the opportunity to take part in the research.
Feedback gained in these discussions will be summarised as part of the wider report and participants can choose not to be directly attributed to the comments they make if preferred and remain anonymous. As a ‘thank you’ for their time participants will receive a £40 online GiftPay voucher, or alternatively, a donation of the same amount can be made to charity.
