THE GENDERED AND INTERSECTIONAL INEQUALITIES IN ACADEMIC STEM BY
Earlier this month WES Midlands had the pleasure of having Dr Izzy Jayasinghe speak to a virtual audience, here's what she touched on.
Access to research funding and inclusive workplace culture are among the critical determinants of a diverse research community.
With the recent publication of diversity data and funding success rates under the UKRI and associated councils, new light has been shed onto the systematic biases and disadvantage women and people from ethnic minorities, and the barriers they face in growing their research and advancing their careers.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF WOMEN IN ENGINEERING?
Our Heritage Officer, Helen Close would like to pull together a working group from our WES members to help plan and deliver our heritage strategy for the next three years.
We will be having planning meetings on a quarterly basis and commitment may involve contributing to specific projects or targets, such as giving a presentation or writing an article or Wikipedia page.
If you enjoy history, research or are passionate about making sure the history of women in engineering is shared and want to be part of this exciting initiative to help us decide what we should
be looking at, get in touch with Helen.

MARGARET DOROTHEA ROWBOTHAM
We were delighted to receive a phone call from Tiverton Baptist Church in Devon, who had discovered this amazing technical drawing set in at the back of a cupboard used by the Girls’ Brigade for their craft supplies.
This set had belonged to WES founding member Margaret Dorothea Rowbotham and was presented to her presumably upon leaving Galloway Motors in 1921. The inscription reads “Presented to Miss M. D. Rowbotham by the staff and workers of Galloway Motors Ltd 15th January 1921”.
The Church has kindly donated the drawing set to WES and we hope to display it at some stage when our office at the IET, Stevenage, reopens next year.
