The Fourteenth Session of Annual Conference
Fourteenth Session of the Upper New York Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church to be held in-person June 1 - 3, 2023

NEW/UPDATED

Registration for Annual Conference

Annual Conference is June 1-3, 2023

Registration for the

2023 Upper New York (UNY) Annual Conference, to be held June 1-3, at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena in Syracuse, closed on April 30. There is a lot of work that happens behind-the scenes among the UNY staff to make the registration process smooth and easy-to-understand. For those who registered (over 900 of you), we thank you!

Because the Book of Discipline ensures all voting members have the opportunity to vote, onsite registration will be provided. As in the past, a $50 late fee will be added to the $250 registration fee and the entire $300 fee must be paid in full at the time of registration onsite. Also, because the SRC Arena needed numbers in advance for meals, we can only guarantee meals for the first 50 people who register onsite.

Questions can be addressed by sending an email to [email protected].

*PLEASE NOTE:Reminder:You will need to register AGAIN in October for that session of Annual Conference.

Who Can Vote At Annual Conference?

There is often confusion regarding who is to attend and who has both voice and voting privileges at Annual Conference. For example, voting rights for Annual Conference are different than voting rights for clergy session. Even though you are appointed as a pastor at a local church doesn't necessarily grant you the right to attend and vote a clergy session. Review the voting information, as outlined in The Book of Discipline, below for further explanation regarding clergy and laity.

Housing While at Annual Conference

The deadline to make a housing reservation at a discounted rate is Monday, May 8. The Conference Office does not take or make the reservations and does not accept payment for rooms.

  1. Clergy retirees, those on medical leave, and equalization members (EQ) are asked to make their own room reservations directly. There will be no re-imbursement given to EQ members this year.
  2. It is the responsibility of the person reserving the room to obtain a completed and signed tax exemption form from their affiliated church or from their district office if serving as an equalization member to avoid sales tax on their room. The individual also is responsible to notify the hotel of the tax exemption form in advance of arriving to avoid any complications.
  3. If you have questions regarding housing, please direct those questions to Autumn Wells at (315) 898-2004.
Youth wishing to room with other youth attendees contact Tony Hipes at (607) 624-2989 or [email protected]. Youth must also notify their district office to get on the equalization list form that district. Betsy O’Flynn is coordinating rooms at the Parkview Hotel to house the youth and young adults. Laity invited to self-nominate for two lay vacancies for the 2024 Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference

The Upper New York (UNY) Conference elects delegates for the Northeastern Jurisdictional (NEJ) Conference and the General Conference the year prior to each General Conference, which ordinarily takes place every four years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 General Conference was postponed twice and is now slotted for 2024.

Because of unprecedented length between General Conferences, the United Methodist Judicial Council will be allowing conferences to fill delegate vacancies. The UNY Conference currently has two lay vacancies for the NEJ delegation.

Laity members are invited to self-nominate for these vacancies by May 14. Voting voting will take place during laity session at Annual Conference in June.
