Don't miss it! You can visit our Arizona exhibition, Mac Schweitzer: A Southwest Maverick Rediscovered, at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West until September 27, 2026. View over seventy of the artist's paintings, drawings, prints and small sculptures; page through digitized versions of her sketchbooks and photo albums; enjoy larger-than-life photos of Mac at work and play; read about some of her Southwest adventures. Docent-led tours are available to entertain and inform you. And please let us know what you think about the innovative format of this show and about Mac's art and life!

"Mac Schweitzer Rides On: The Artist and Her Legacy"

At 3pm, pm Friday, September 18, 2026, come celebrate Mac's last ride on the big screen at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. Ann Hedlund will present an illustrated talk and then meet visitors in the gallery for Q&A.

While you are visiting Western Spirit, don't miss Woven: Navajo Textiles from the Pelberg Collection, which opens with a weekend celebration on September 5-6.

Tucson Museum of Art Hosts Lunch/Talk About Mac

The TMA Western Art Patrons will enjoy lunch and a talk about Mac by Ann Hedlund on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at the Tucson Museum of Art. To join this private event, visit the museum's website.

Tumamoc Author Series Features Mac

On Wednesday, February 10, 2027, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Ann will share stories about Mac's adventures in the Southwest with moderator Shelby Tisdale on Tumamoc Hill in Tucson, sponsored by the UA Southwest Center. Free and open to the public.

Mac Recognized in New Mexico

On Friday, August 28, the NM Book Association honored our book as one of two winners of the 2026 Southwest Book Design Production Award in the Biography / Autobiography / Memoir category. We agree that designer Leigh McDonald did a fabulous job and, equally important, she was great fun to work with. We are in good company with the other winner, Philip Connors' The Mountain Knows The Mountain.

Early in 2026 Mac Schweitzer: A Southwest Maverick and Her Art was recognized by Tucson’s Pima County Library as one of the four “Top Picks” for the Southwest Books of the Year awards. We celebrated that honor at the Tucson Book Festival. The Albuquerque Journal also listed the book as one of four "favorite reads" from 2025.
