And please let us know what you think about the innovative format of this show and about Mac's art and life! | | "Mac" is in Silver City, NM, during February | | Light Art Space Gallery Hosts Month-Long Exhibit Downtown | | An exclusive Silver City, New Mexico, showing! Come see this special selection of Mac's serigraphs, lithographs, and drawings on display in the Flash Gallery of Light Art Space from February 6th through March 1st. The gallery will open on Friday, February 6, 5:00-7:00 pm, for the town's monthly Art Walk with refreshments to be served. | | Photographs by Larry Ollivier to be featured in Flash Gallery | Mac didn't take many photographs of her beloved desert and canyon landscapes. Instead, she observed carefully and worked from memory, never painting from photos. To provide context, we selected a series of landscapes by Larry Ollivier to augment the illustrations in Mac's book. During February, a group of his remarkable black-and-white prints will be displayed alongside Mac's artworks at Light Art Space's Flash Gallery. The gallery also will include a rotating slideshow featuring even more of both artists' works. | | Slide Talks by Ann Hedlund | |
On Sunday, February 8th, from 3:00 to 4:30, Ann will share stories about Mac's adventures in the Southwest. Join us in downtown Silver City at the Light Art Space's back studio for her illustrated talk and a following reception with refreshments and a booksigning.
And on Saturday, January 31st, from 9:00-12 noon, just down the road at the Amerind Museum in Dragoon, Arizona--if you're a member of the Friends of Western Art (or deciding to join) you can attend Ann's talk, preview the museum's "Stormy Days--Rain in the West" exhibition, and enjoy a members' brunch. Cowgirl Up! (Art from the Other Half of the West)
On March 28, 2026, if you are attending the Cowgirl Up! festivities at the Sigler Western Museum in Wickenburg, AZ, you can hear Ann Hedlund's illustrated talk at 11:00 am on Saturday morning. How did Mac relate to other men and women artists of the 1950s? Without her early death in 1962 and the disappearance of the artist's legacy, what impact could her work have made on later women artists? Looking backwards, what contemporary trends might have impressed Mac if she could have looked ahead? View more here.

Looking back at 2025 events
Some of us sure had fun last year! After waiting almost six months for the boxed books to arrive (literally!) on a slow boat from Asia, we opened the Scottsdale exhibit and proceeded to celebrate the creative life and work of Mac Schweitzer in public. So many people have participated so far in this journey--from encouraging my past five years of research, writing, editing and illustrating, to organizing and attending our more recent festive and thoughtful gatherings, and with more ahead, I am grateful for everyone's interest and support. Thank you all for helping Mac's artistic legacy live on!
