Not for School, But for Life We Learn. -Seneca

Good evening Menendez Nation,

What an incredible week last week. We had so many wonderful things take place around Menendez and we can't wait to see what this week holds as well. Each week seems to be getting better and better. Students are rising to the challenge and exceeding all expectations.

Last week marked our First Annual Pedro Menendez High School Track or Treat. Our student clubs and sports were set up around the track for future falcons to trick or treat as well as some schools in the feeder pattern. We had over 500 members of the community attend to walk the track, get candy and play activities from our clubs and teams and watch some sppoky shows on the scoreboard. What was more incredible was that we had over 200 our our students and staff attend to serve the community for the event. We can not be prouder of the character our students demonstrated at Track or Treat.

Our Environmental Club went to the Jacksonville Zoo last week as well. The students had a great time as well and learned about conservation. We are very thankful to Ms. Boss for sponsoring this club.

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes who won districts and qualified for regionals. We have seen great successes from our bowling and golf teams. Look for more athletic celebrations soon!

Friday was capped off with a grudge match between the Menendez Falcons against Matanzas High School. Our team, although the underdog, defeated Matanzas in thrilling fashion. We also had the opportunity to recognize our senior football, band, cheer, dance and cross country students as well. It was great to see the Menendez nation RISE up

The Falcon Regiment capped off the week on Saturday at Bartram Trail High School for a marching band competition. They performed well above expectations and did splendidly. We are very proud of all the members of the regiment and the leadership of Mr. Scaccia.

Grades were published in HAC on October 24th. We encourage you to take the time to review grades with your kids and discuss goals for the second quarter with them.

Attendance has also shown slight improvement. We hope to see continued improvement in the second quarter. Attendance is critical for learning and we want every student to be successful. Please remind your child, if they drive to school, make sure to arrive on time.

Senior parents, please make sure to look through the entire newsletter as there is important information for the coming weeks. As of now, Senior Dues are open for payment. Please see the flyer below.

Please see the flyer below regarding digital IDs. These will be utilized this year for students in the media center, cafeteria, checking in and out and other school events. If your child does not have a cell phone, we do have alternative options. In addition, all students must complete the form below to access the SJCSD network and acknowledge access to the SJCSD student code of conduct.

  • This clearance is for entry on campus during school hours such as a morning meeting with teachers or counselors, volunteering, or other events.

As the year progresses, the message will fill with information for our students, parents and our community. Please make sure to subscribe to The Menendez Message at the link below.

We look forward to unlocking the potential of each student and Menendez High School this coming school year. RISE UP FALCONS!

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to our first ever District Champion Bowler, Eli Ackner!

Congratulations to the Beaver Toyota Student of the Week, Gabriella Lepore! Gabriella is in 11th grade at Pedro Menendez High School. She participates in activities like Drama Club, Link Crew, National Honor Society, National Honor Society of Dance Arts, IB Certificate Student, and Assistant Director of Pedro Menendez’s Falcon Theatre's fall production of Hedda Gabler. She likes to intern at the Limelight Theatre, hang out with friends, and model at Sessions Studios in her spare time. One of the accomplishments she’s most proud of is becoming Thespian President while maintaining her GPA. One of her goals this year is to succeed even further in her school’s theater department and lead the department to success with her theater teacher, Ms.Riso. After high school, she hopes to go to one of her dream schools...NYU or Columbia University to double major with an MFA in acting and a business degree. One person she looks up to is her mom, who has taught her to be over-prepared, be kind to everyone, and have a positive attitude toward challenges that come her way.

School Counselors

FCTC is hosting a Career Showcase on November 2nd for all SJCSD Juniors and Seniors, where they'll get to visit two programs such as Culinary Arts, HVAC, Dental Assistant and more. This will be a school day field trip so all interested students will need to sign up in the Guidance office with Mrs. Toffaletti by October 18th !

The School Counselors will be presenting in the senior English classes during Homecoming week regarding graduation requirements and the college application process. If you or your student still have questions after these presentations, please don't hesitate to contact your student's counselor. We have been actively posting scholarship opportunities on our Guidance Schoology page, so please encourage your senior students to keep checking that page for updates!

DUAL ENROLLMENT INFO

Any student planning on taking a Dual Enrollment class at SJRSC or online, you will need to make an appointment with your counselor beginning next week. Please view the course offerings on the SJRSC website prior to your meeting. This includes all Early college students.

The college application season is in full swing and our School Counselors are here to help! The first step is for seniors to make a free account on www.commonapp.org where they can fill out one application that gets sent to multiple colleges which saves quite a bit of time and effort. Once they have done that, please have them make an appointment with their School Counselor to go over specifics with transcripts, letters of recommendation, and test scores, so we can make sure they have everything they need in a timely manner. We highly recommend all applications be submitted by November 1st as this is when most of the schools have set their priority deadlines. Check out www.naviance.com if your student doesn't know where they want to apply yet or is an underclassman looking for general information for the future - every student has a free account, they just need to log in with their S# and password - we can help get them logged in at school their first time if they need assistance.

The PMHS School Counselor Office looks forward to serving the academic and social needs of the students of PMHS. More information on services and supports can be found at https://www-pmhs.stjohns.k12.fl.us/guidance/
