Not for School, But for Life We Learn. -Seneca

Good afternoon Falcon Families and Community,

What a beautiful weekend after a great week at the school. Students were very busy last week with classwork, school events and after school opportunities. Our teachers have been working diligently to provide excellent instruction and remediation when students need it. Each day matters and we are glad to see students taking each day and class seriously. Together, this will be an incredible year for PMHS.

Since we are nearing the end of the first quarter, please take time to review your child's grades and attendance in Home Access Center. We have noticed that, generally speaking, our attendance and behaviors has been good. This is a big improvement that will show in student achievement. Please remind your child, if they drive, to come to school and class on time.

State testing began last week, but we will be continuing for make-ups and other student groups. Please see the assessment section below for further details.

Clubs are now in full force at the school and we will be hosting a Club Rush during lunches this week. Research shows that student who connect through clubs, academies, athletics and programs of choice typically have a better high school experience.

Speaking of clubs, our Student Council, in cooperation with our clubs and athletics will be hosting the inaugural Track of Treat on October. This is an opportunity for the the entire community to come together for sime trick or treating, a movie and time to come together for the betterment of our community. See the flyer below for a save the date.

Please see the flyer below regarding digital IDs. These will be utilized this year for students in the media center, cafeteria, checking in and out and other school events. If your child does not have a cell phone, we do have alternative options. IN addition, all students must complete the form below to access the SJCSD network and acknowledge access to the SJCSD student code of conduct.

Senior and junior parents, please make sure to look through the entire newsletter as there is important information from Jostens regarding graduation and the opportunity to purchase school rings.

A multitude of our clubs are recruiting or have begun to meet. Information regarding clubs is posted throughout the campus. Student Council is working to organize a great community-wide event, Track or Treat, on October 25th. Please encourage your child to get involved in something of interest. Information on clubs are posted around campus and near the bottom of the Menendez Message.

Visitors to campus MUST complete a School Access Form which can be found on the SJCSD website at https://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/volunteer/.

  • This clearance is for entry on campus during school hours such as a morning meeting with teachers or counselors, volunteering, or other events.

As the year progresses, the message will fill with information for our students, parents and our community. Please make sure to subscribe to The Menendez Message at the link below.

We look forward to unlocking the potential of each student and Menendez High School this coming school year. RISE UP FALCONS!

Respectfully,

Ted Banton

Student Spotlight

Congrats to the Beaver Toyota Student of the Week, Jason Watson! Jason is a senior at Pedro Menendez High School. He is an athlete and participates in school sports including football, basketball, and track as well as ALC . In his free time, you will probably find him training and playing various sports. One thing Jason is most proud of is his basketball team beating their biggest rivals at St Augustine High School in the playoffs this year. Jason is very proud of his teams, especially since his basketball and football team were young this year. He is from the Dominican Republic and would love to return for vacation. Jason thinks people may be surprised to find out how much he enjoys computers. In the future, he would love to go to college and pursue a career in cyber security. Jason really looks up to his father, who he says is his hero. Congratulations, Jason!

Meghan Dawson, a junior at Pedro Menendez threw out the first pitch at last week’s Jumbo Shrimp game.Way to go Meghan!

School Counselors

The School Counselors are meeting with the 9th and 10th graders on Monday and Tuesday in the PAC to go over graduation requirements. If you or your student have any questions or concerns after these presentations, please don't hesitate to contact our counseling office at 904-547-8667 to schedule an appointment!

The college application season is in full swing and our School Counselors are here to help! The first step is for seniors to make a free account on www.commonapp.org where they can fill out one application that gets sent to multiple colleges which saves quite a bit of time and effort. Once they have done that, please have them make an appointment with their School Counselor to go over specifics with transcripts, letters of recommendation, and test scores, so we can make sure they have everything they need in a timely manner. We highly recommend all applications be submitted by November 1st as this is when most of the schools have set their priority deadlines. Check out www.naviance.com if your student doesn't know where they want to apply yet or is an underclassman looking for general information for the future - every student has a free account, they just need to log in with their S# and password - we can help get them logged in at school their first time if they need assistance.

The PMHS School Counselor Office looks forward to serving the academic and social needs of the students of PMHS. More information on services and supports can be found at https://www-pmhs.stjohns.k12.fl.us/guidance/

Thank you, Flagler Health+ for partnering with us to drive student success.
