National Civility Month was founded to help the world remember to treat others the way we wish to be treated ourselves — with kindness, empathy, and respect. Donors, Volunteers, Board Members, and Sponsors like you help us live out the meaning of National Civility Month including this heartwarming story from our Middletown ReStore.
Kwaku Duwah has become a regular customer at our Middletown ReStore. However, his reason for shopping is unique. Each purchase that Kwaku makes at the ReStore gets sent to his hometown in Ghana. Purchases have included: doors, windows, tools, patio chairs, artwork, and the latest donations we received from the Bear library which included computer chairs and block preschool chairs (pictured left). As our Middletown staff was helping Kwaku load the latest purchase in his car, they discovered Kwaku is building a school back in his hometown, and all of his ReStore purchases have been items meant for the school.
Thank you to customers like Kwaku for supporting our ReStores and our mission while working on achieving your mission and goals simultaneously.

Tithing has been a foundational part of Habitat for Humanity since its inception. It’s the recognition of how all Habitat affiliates are connected in addition to the ability to share worldwide and make a change both in our communities and around the world. Since 1998, HFHNCC has given $1.5 million to help 414 families through Habitat for Humanity International. In addition to our work in New Castle County, these funds have helped provide housing needs for people in Egypt, Tanzania, India, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.

What does Housing Mean to You?
Stability.
A Sanctuary.
Peace of Mind.
Opportunity.
These are just some of the answers that our Habitat homeowners have answered when asked this very question.
HFHNCC Homeowner, Doris Scott, moved into her home in 2005 and since then she has celebrated many milestones made possible because of affordable housing. Her children have a stable household to focus on schoolwork which is evident in her daughter, Faith, getting accepted to 26 colleges and a full-ride scholarship offer from the University of Delaware. Doris' experience throughout the HFHNCC Homeownership Program even impacted her daughter's decision to also become a Habitat Homeowner.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who have given time on the construction sites and in our ReStores. This month we had the pleasure of working alongside hardworking employees from Amazon, CSC, and Delaware State University's Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

The City of Wilmington Issues Mid-Year Update on its ARPA Neighborhood Plans
|
|
Community investment funds are being distributed and affordable housing efforts are underway with the involvement of minority contractors. Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki today issued a mid-year update on the City’s neighborhood revitalization plan, which is backed largely with federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The Mayor said progress is underway on the City’s East Side, where the Administration’s citywide neighborhood efforts are initially focused on the area from 4th to 11th streets and Walnut to Church streets. Mayor Purzycki said progress is also being made regarding the Administration’s goal of ensuring that minority contractors, developers, and workers have access to the ARPA-funded projects and jobs being created through the rebuilding of City neighborhoods.
