Our goal is to help children develop their social and emotional intelligence so that they can experience improved academic success and be an integral part of building a positive school climate. As the research shows, these benefits will impact students well beyond their academic years.
Why do parents need to know about SEL?
As parents, teachers, administrators, and community members, we all play a part in a child’s social and emotional learning. SEL takes place at home, just as much as it does at school. The impact of SEL at school is greatly enhanced when parents are able to reinforce the learning at home. Many of us find that we are learning right along with the children, and that’s okay. SEL isn’t just for kids. These are skills that we are constantly honing as we mature and have new life experiences.
Each and every day children are watching us manage our emotions and relationships, so it’s important that we model positive social and emotional skills. Through this article series we will share resources that you might find helpful for your family’s social and emotional learning at home.
