Our WHS Theatre will present Shakespeare’s comedy,
Much Ado About Nothing,
on November 15, 16, and 17!
Synopsis:
Claudio falls in love with Hero and their marriage is agreed upon. However, a jealous Don John plots to break up the happy couple. Meanwhile, Beatrice and Benedick despise love and engage in comic banter. The others plot to make them fall in love with each other by a trick in which Benedick will overhear his friends talking of Beatrice's supposed secret love for him, and vice versa. It’s full of witty dialogue, comedic moments, and a hint of tragedy, and of course it features our talented students!

It’s just a couple of absences here and there, what can it hurt?
Parents are often surprised to learn that missing just a couple of days each month,
regardless of the reason
, has a negative impact on their child’s education. It’s also considered chronic absence. Visit these resources to learn more:
At WCS, we’re constantly trying to reinforce positive messaging about the importance and benefits of strong attendance. If your child is struggling with attendance, we encourage you to reach out to a teacher, guidance counselor, or Principal. For more information visit

Instagram Anti-Bullying Features
|
|
If you child is on Instagram, make sure they know about the latest enhancements to Instagram that are designed to help users to combat cyber-bullying on the platform.
- Hiding "likes" count from public view (poster can still see the number) - Kids often feel pressured to post things that get them more and more "likes" for their friends to see, sometimes leading to inappropriate/harmful posts.
- Notifications that let the user know if the post they are creating might be considered mean-spirited, giving them a chance to rethink/reword the post.
- Banning content showing self-harm, providing resources to people that search for that content.
While these enhancements may help, they can never take the place of the influence and guidance of loving parents and caregivers. Take some time, get to know the social media platforms your child uses, and help them to stay safe and make healthy choices when using social media apps.

Social-Emotional Learning
|
|
What is Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and why is it important to understand?
A child’s emotional intelligence reflects how they handle frustration or conflict, manage their emotions, develop relationships, and make decisions.
Helping your child to develop skills to manage their emotions, handle frustration and conflict, and make responsible decisions can have a positive impact on their success at school. Students have daily opportunities to put those skills to good use as they struggle to learn difficult new concepts, navigate friendships on the playground or a sports team, and build confidence in themselves so that they can make healthy choices.
This year, the Ohio Department of Education adopted K-12 Social and Emotional Learning Standards for Ohio schools
. They are currently developing
resources
for schools, parents, and community members to use in helping children develop the skills necessary for success in school and beyond.
This is the first article in a series on this topic.
We hope you’ll follow along with us as we explore each of the 5 domains of SEL, along with age-based expectations, tips for parents, and how our schools are working to enhance each child’s social and emotional learning.

ATHLETICS: KIDS, PARENTS, AND SPORTSMANSHIP
|
|
As parents, spectators, and community supporters, we plan a critical role in helping our student athletes understand healthy competition and good sportsmanship, build character and self-confidence, and develop a strong work ethic and commitment to their team. Our kids are watching and listening more than you know, and the example we set for them is critical.
Participating in athletics provides so many benefits to children, giving them a healthy activity, strong mentors, and a chance to meet and make new friends. Student athletes are also less likely to use drugs or skip school.
Check out
To Practice Good Sportsmanship
(Prevention Action Alliance’s
Know!
article) for more information.
Let’s do our part, set a positive example, and help student athletes get the most out of their experience.
