Event Recap

Métis Ribbon Skirt Workshop Part 1- Sept 7th

We had a great group of friends come together to learn about the historical significance of the ribbon skirt to Métis people and everyone got to start making their skirt! It was a great day of community and creativity. Each participant did a wonderful job in the class and expressed themselves with unique fabrics and ribbon colours. We can't wait to have everyone come together again on October 19th and see your finished skirts!

Galt Museums Celebrating Indigenous Arts! - Sept 22nd

The Galt Museum held 3 different forms of Indigenous art workshops during the day. First was one hosted by Melanie Morrow, where we learned how to make Métis Dot Art! Participants all got a canvas to express their creativity. In the second workshop participants learned about Fish Scale Art from Maria Livingston. They used fish scales that had been cleaned and dyed by Maria herself. A practice that's been passed down to her from her mother and family. Unfortunately, the beading workshop instructor wasn't able to make it so that class will be rescheduled. We will keep an eye out for that date and let you know if there is space available!

Truth & Reconciliation Powwow - Sept 28/29

Did you see us at the T&R Powwow? Our table had the fur pelts of a beaver, fox, badger, skunk, and coyote on display for people to touch. Thank you to our volunteers for helping over the weekend, your support makes these events possible. Your help allows us to foster safe spaces for Métis People in the community.

We made buttons with Tou Lii Aafaan Kishchiitayakooshiw—‘Every Child Matters’ in Michif—for the community. We stand with all Indigenous Peoples in their healing journeys and encourage everyone to learn the truths of residential schools as a step toward meaningful reconciliation.
