Changes for Texas 4-H Congress 2024

We are excited to be making some changes to Texas 4-H Congress! Texas 4-H Congress will be held in Austin, TX on July 14-17, 2024. At Texas 4-H Congress we have a Youth Leadership Team that serves in the various Legislative Roles at Congress, including but not limited to: Governor, Speaker of the House, Lieutenant Governor, and Floor Leaders. This year, the opportunity to serve in one of these leadership roles is being opened to Texas 4-H members who have or are currently serving on Texas 4-H Council, any District 4-H Council, or any of the STATE LEVEL Ambassador programs.

Applications will open on 4HOnline on November 1, 2023, and will close on December 5.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Trailblazer Committee will once again accept writing entries from Texas 4th grade students for both Essay and Poetry. We are delighted to announce the 2024 season Writing Competition prompt:

My Magical Rodeo Garden: One day while exploring the outskirts of your ranch you discover an old worn cowboy hat next to a hidden entrance. Curious, you put on the hat, and it magically leads you to a rodeo garden deep in the heart of Texas. Write a story or poem about the adventures you have in the magical garden.

The Writing Competition consists of two categories, Essay and Poetry. Please read the details in the Rules and Regulations and the Entry form and join us for this exciting opportunity to be a student author for the 2024 Rodeo season!

To enter please submit entries by Dec. 5, 2023, to Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Writing Competition Portal. The entry portal will open on Nov. 20, 2023 and winners will be announced on Feb. 9, 2024.

Each entry will be judged by committee volunteers in two blind rounds on the following criteria: Ideas, Organization, Voice, Sentence Fluency, Conventions, and Presentation. Following the committee judging the top entries will be judged by a panel of “celebrity” judges.

Information: It’s time to start thinking about the SOUPER BOWL! (No, not the football game!) The Souper Bowl of Caring empowers young people – and often the adults who support them — to lead the way in combating hunger. Youth decide what local food charity will receive the donations and give 100% of everything they collect. Learn how you can start planning now for a great event in 2024.
