County-wide

Range Management Project

framed_field.jpg

LOOKING FOR A NEW PROJECT?

The county-wide range management project is getting ready to start meeting and learning about Texas rangelands and how to manage them.

This fun and very educational project focuses on learning grasses found on Texas rangelands for the 4-H Range & Pasture Grass Identification Contest (Grass Judging).

The project also teaches members about range management principles and practices which lead participants to compete in the 4-H Range Evaluation Contest, where you will also need to learn not only the grasses, but also the forbs, legumes and woody plants.

There will be occasional field trips, but generally the practices are indoors.

The district contests are usually in April in Fredericksburg for all ages. Senior 4-Hers are eligible to compete at State 4-H Roundup in College Station on June 4 and 5, 2024.

Project meetings will be set once we see what interest there is – meetings are usually during the week after school, but can also be on the weekends if needed to accommodate schedules of the 4-H members.

Contact project leader, Carolyn Phelan, at 830-237-0450 or carolynfeyphelan@gmail.com with questions or for more information.

Join us in November for SPARK (formerly Junior Leadership Retreat) which is the premiere youth teaching youth statewide leadership retreat for junior and intermediate level 4-H members led by our Texas 4-H Council! 4-H members will have the opportunity to spark their interest through service-learning activities, project experiences, art and crafts, recreation and knowledge. Most importantly, they will have a chance to meet 4-H members from across the State and make new friends!! And of course, what is a 4-H camp experience without a dance!!
