AIA Indiana Strategic Council Representative - 2025-2027 Term - Call for Candidates - The AIA Indiana Board of Directors is actively seeking passionate individuals interested in serving as the AIA Indiana Strategic Council Representative. AIA Indianapolis March Program - Join us for the AIA Indianapolis March Program, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 14, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., at the Basile Theatre at the Historic Athenaeum, 401 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46204, for networking and a continuing education program titled – The White River and Singapore: Placemaking lessons for Indianapolis from around the world. AIA Northern Indiana March Program - Tonn and Blank | WESTVILLE OFF-SITE CONSTRUCTION FACILITY Tour/Program - The March AIA Northern Indiana Program is scheduled for 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, March 26, at the Westville Off-Site Construction Facility, 6500 U.S. 421 Westville, IN 46391. Tonn and Blank’s off-site construction division specializes in the design, development and fabrication of modular building elements. The facility is capable of producing bathroom pods, exam rooms, offices, electrical and data distribution rooms, interior and exterior wall assemblies, as well as hotel and residence hall rooms. During this event we will tour the 85,000 square foot fully enclosed and climate-controlled facility in Westville, Indiana. Jack Hudgens, manager of the pre-construction division will be our host. Artificial Intelligence Image Generation for Architects - A presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence Image Generation for Architects" has been assembled by AIA New Jersey and shared within the Small Firms Exchange (SFX) network of AIA National. Featuring AIA New Jersey President Brian W. Penschow, AIA, NCARB, and AIA New Jersey Public Awareness Co-chair William J. Martin, AIA, PP, LEED AP-H, the presentation aims to delve into the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in enhancing architectural services offered by AIA member architects, with a focus on benefiting the public. AIA Indiana State Disaster Coordinator /IBEAM - Steve Alspaugh, FAIA, the AIA Indiana State Disaster Coordinator, took the initiative to engage with attendees at the recent Indiana Structural Engineers Association Spring Conference. Hosting a booth and delivering a speech, Steve aimed to recruit volunteers for the IBEAM (Indiana Building Emergency Assessment and Monitoring) Team. Furthermore, individuals keen on participating in disaster response efforts may consider registering for the upcoming AIA SAP (Safety Assessment Program) Trainings, scheduled for March 20-21 (CLICK HERE to register) and June 26-27 (CLICK HERE to register). These sessions play a vital role in equipping volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge to support local governments in assessing the safety of their built environment following a disaster. The AIA Disaster Assistance Program, of which SAP is a cornerstone, offers leadership, advocacy, and training opportunities for architects interested in lending their expertise during crises. The workshop will cover rapid damage assessment techniques for structures affected by earthquakes, wind, and water, ensuring participants are capable of consistently and safely evaluating habitability. Upon successful completion of the course, attendees will receive a nationally recognized Cal OES registration ID card from the state of California. Moreover, participants will earn 6.5 AIA HSW LUs!

Indiana University J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program Lecture Series - The J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program Lecture and Exhibition Series brings prominent working artists and architects to Columbus. Lectures take place in the auditorium and exhibitions in the gallery, both located within The Republic Building, 333 2nd Street in Columbus. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All events are free and open to the public. University of Notre Dame School of Architecture Spring Lecture Series - All spring 2024 lectures will be delivered in person and virtually via Zoom at 5:15 pm on Wednesdays unless otherwise noted. The School of Architecture’s Lecture Series provides a venue for students, faculty, and the larger community, to engage in critical thinking about architecture and urbanism. The lectures allow students and faculty to interact with distinguished practitioners, academics, and theorists who shape the world’s natural and built environment. Ralph Gerdes Consultants, LLC  - Ralph D. Gerdes, RA, has recently announced his retirement as of March 1, capping off an illustrious career spanning nearly five decades. A pioneer in the field, Ralph established Indiana's premier consulting firm four decades ago, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of architectural expertise in the state. Over the years, he has lent his expertise to a diverse array of projects, ranging from quaint bed and breakfasts to sprawling sports facilities and multi-million square foot warehouses, as well as towering high-rise office buildings.


Beyond his professional achievements, Ralph has been a dedicated advocate for advancing building safety standards. He generously volunteered his time and expertise to various esteemed organizations, including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), where he served on several influential committees such as 101, 13, and the Standards Council. Closer to home, Ralph's commitment to bettering building safety standards in Indiana has been evident through his active participation in numerous local committees over the years.


As Ralph steps into a well-deserved retirement, the reins of his esteemed practice will be passed on to Dave Cook, RA, a trusted colleague who has been by Ralph's side for over three decades. Under the new banner of Dave Cook Consultants, LLC, Dave will continue the legacy of excellence that Ralph has established.


Congratulations, Ralph, on your retirement, and thank you for your invaluable contributions to the field of architecture and building safety. Your legacy will endure for years to come.
