Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) Announces New Program to Accelerate the Review and Release of Building Plans - Effective December 2, 2024, the IDHS will be immediately issuing a design release for plans without the need for a plan review for specific types of projects filed on or after this date. Qualifying plans include: Duplicate plans approved by IDHS or another governmental jurisdiction for another project; Plans for structures that are not traditionally occupied or are classified as storage buildings; Plans for open-air pavilions; Plans for remodels, renovations or repairs of a structure that is not undergoing a change of use and is located in Indianapolis. AIA Indiana Disaster Response Team - The Indiana Building Emergency Assessment Monitoring team (I-BEAM) is planning a full-scale two-day Field Exercise on June 17-18, 2025. This mock disaster will deploy our AIA Indiana Disaster Response Roster as part of a disaster response training exercise. This is as close as it gets to the real thing with all of the players involved and working together much as they would do during a response to an actual disaster. The Field Exercise will involve walking around the Indiana State Fairgrounds with a written scenario of the (imagined) damages to the actual buildings on the Fairgrounds campus. The groups performing the building damage assessments will be doing so in teams of 3-4 people. Indiana High School Architectural Design Competition - The Architecture State Championship - This year’s competition “Igniting Change” encourages students to think about how the design of a building relates to its surroundings and its community. Students will be asked to design a new fire station in a small historic downtown. This multi-dimensional program presents many layers of complexity for design exploration and should be an engaging challenge for any student at any skill level who is interested in art, architecture, drafting, or interior design. This design competition is an excellent vehicle for students to explore an interest in architecture and design, as well as a great resume builder. Indiana Landmarks Black Heritage Preservation Program - Scholarships and Internships – The Indiana Landmarks Black Heritage Preservation Program is offering two $10,000 scholarships to support the education of future Black preservation leaders. These scholarships will cover education-related expenses at an accredited college or university and will be awarded for the 2025-26 school year.
