Abigail Pierce – A Welcoming New Face to
Henderson County Cooperative Extension
When you walk in the front door at Henderson County Cooperative Extension, you are likely to be greeted by a new addition to our office. Abigail Pierce joined our staff on January 3, 2023, as our new Support Specialist.
Abigail’s primary responsibilities will include greeting clients, answering phones, and managing our social and digital media. You may have already seen some of her posts on our Facebook pages and thanks to her, we are now on Instagram. We hope you will connect with us there.
Abigail graduated from Harrison High School in Kennesaw, GA, and received a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communications from the University of Georgia. Her Ag Comm background will be a great asset to our office as we reach an increasing number of our clientele through digital means. She definitely ups our game in that arena with her expertise and skills.
Most recently, Abigail worked as an assistant teacher at FernLeaf Community Charter School in Fletcher. Prior to that, she was a school nutrition assistant and garden educator with FoodCorps and the Jackson County (GA) School System. In that role, she helped connect with farmers and distributors to purchase local food for the 11 school cafeterias in the district.
In that role, she developed a relationship with a local cattle farm and managed weekly orders of meat to the cafeterias. She also planned and taught nutrition and garden lessons to the Pre-K through 5th-grade students.
Other previous experiences include six summers with Gwynn Valley Camp in Brevard as a cabin counselor and farm program leader. She also participated in an unpaid internship program that took her to Monteverde, Costa Rica. In that role, she managed crop production and assisted in the care of cows, pigs, and chickens. She facilitated connections with community members to share permaculture farm practices and research.
Additionally, Abigail worked for Raindance Organic Farm in Whitmore Lake, MI where she was the assistant farm manager. She helped manage the seeding, transplanting, and maintenance of the fruits, vegetables, and herbs on the farm. In a similar role, she was the assistant farm manager of the University of Georgia’s 4-acre organic farm where she supervised student workers and community volunteers.
We are delighted to have Abigail’s diverse background in our office. We know that she will be a great asset to Henderson County Cooperative Extension as well as our clientele. We intend to get her out to many of our farms and events to utilize her extensive background in agriculture to help enhance our programs. So be looking for Abigail at Extension events around the county. Come in and welcome her to our office. She’ll likely be the first person you encounter when you enter our doors.
