We would like to introduce you to our primary Recovery Room Nurse, Darlene Koricich.
"It’s hard to believe but I have been a nurse for 41 years! I graduated in 1977 from Carlow College with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in nursing. I started my career working in the Neuro Trauma Unit / ICU at Westmoreland Hospital. While raising my children I worked the night shift so that I did not have a need for daycare.
I became the manager of the ICU in 1996. My love of neuroscience lead me to being the Stroke Coordinator at Excela Health covering Westmoreland, Latrobe, and Frick campuses. Working with an interdisciplinary team we developed and implemented stroke protocols and procedures using established national guidelines and evidence based practices for the care of the stroke patient at Excela Health. Working with the American Heart/Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines Quality Program I was able to secure the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Plus awards for all three campuses.
During this period of my career I was involved in many community outreach programs, providing education to the public concerning the types of strokes and treatment. Blood pressure screenings were done during different organizations health fairs throughout the community.
I then went on to work in Perianesthesia and became the manager of this department for Westmoreland and Frick Hospital.
I graduated from Carlow University in 2013 with a Master’s Degree in Adult Education and Leadership. Looking to advance my career in Perianesthesia I went to work at UPMC East as their clinician. I had a brief period of teaching at St. Margaret’s where I discovered I missed the world of Perianesthesia. I joined the team here at Aestique in 2017.
When not working I can be found in the fields with my dogs, spending quality time with my significant other who was my high school sweetheart, my daughter, son , daughter-in-law and my granddaughters whom I absolutely adore.
My philosophy in nursing is to treat my patients like I would want my family to be treated. This has served me well."
